GIVING a massage one week post-op?

Recommended Posts

I think I might have lost my mind. Grant it, these are chair massages and it's very little strain on my own body but a week out....how did you really feel? Do you think you could "lean" on people for several hours?

Reschedule?

Lost my mind? LOL

I was told no massages for 1 month to reduce the incident of breaking off any blood clots that could have formed... even though I had like 9 doses of heparin with my hospital stay.

I am not a massage therapist but I get massages often. I know my massage therapist work very hard! I just thought I would say that I am 10 days post op and just today starting to feel "normal" again. I think the hardest part was that I have been soooo tired. I worry that your energy level will be low. Best of luck!

Lost your mind. ;) Well, you DID ask! LOL I'm 4 days post-op, I tend to recover very quickly from surgeries, but even so...I don't think a week is long enough. You'll have been on Clear liquids followed by full liquids (depending on your doc's guidelines) and aside from the fact that you're recovering from surgery...your stamina and energy levels are likely to be low just from restricted eating.

Plus, if I had to guess, even a chair massage is going to use some of those abdominal muscles. I think if you can reschedule, even by a few days, you should!

Welp...today was the event and I felt well enough to do it. I did sit down for most of the massages (chair massages only) and only about 5 standing up. I think I did 12 massages total and felt completely fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
