Stall at 1 week post op?

Recommended Posts

I lost 14 pounds on my 2 week preop diet, then 13 more the first week out of surgery. Haven't lost any for the past 5 days; actually bumping up and down 1-2 pounds. I guess this is just a time of readjustment because I lost so much early on. Any tips to get it going again? Trying to get it more Protein. On the positive side, I feel great!

And don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with loss so far. Just funny when the scale stops all of a sudden after losing every day and eating

Only 500-600 calories/day.

I haven't been sleeved yet so I am no expert. I do know about starvation mode though. Could your body have realized that and is hanging on for dear life for what is left? Could you get a little more Protein in and a few more calories?

For it to be a true stall/plateau it has to have lasted for at least 3-4 weeks. I know it can seem discouraging to not see the scale move, but you are better off not even using it. In my profile blog I have something about the science of using avocados to move stalls along. Eat some avocado with every meal for 1 week and the scale should move.

I lost 17 pre-op then 13 the first week after surgery. Then I LOST NOTHING FOR THREE WEEKS. I was mad, depressed....I did everything right. I was stunned, really. But you will lose weight according to your biology; every one is different. So don't focus on the scale. Follow your surgeon/NUT recommendations, and just wait it out. It will happen. It is a math problem. Hang in there. Your scale will move. And then you will encourage others !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
