Hi everyone:) this is my first thread, I've been reading some of these posts for the past two weeks and am excited to join this amazing support group! I am getting sleeved on the 30th of May and am going through a roller coaster of emotions. Surprisingly my biggest concern (besides the obvious concerns with surgery) is after the weight comes down, what's the likelihood of excess skin? Any recommendations for tightening it both pre/post op? I was an athlete my entire life and always in great shape until I quit all sports in college and gained 100 lbs (thank you dominos and alcohol! Lol).

Anyway, any and all suggestions are welcome and I wish you all the best on your individual journeys.

There will be some loose skin, bit it depends on lots of factors. The bigger you are, the older you are, the faster you loose... So... take one issue at a time.I can guarantee NO loose skin. All you need to do is keep your weight. But that's not such a hot trade-off... And WELCOME!!

Staple Gun!

Seriously though just exercise. I've been told doing sit ups and crunches works for helping tighten the stomach area. Legs.. walking, cycling, etc. Arms seem to be an issue with most people including myself. I try to do light weight training almost every day when it comes to my arms but they are still kinda floppy and loose. I'm going to have to really kick it into gear and muscle up to tighten them up I guess.

My doc said age & how long you've carried the weight is a big factor on how much of it tightens back up. I'm SOL since I'm 53 & have been carrying this excess weight for about 20 years now. But I really don't care personally....I just want to be healthy & be around for my kids. Not going to be doing any swimsuit modeling! :P

This is one of my biggest fears too!! I'm hoping because I'm 23 and have only been this heavy for about 4-5 years that ill bounce back. But I do have some hideous stretch marks from my 2 pregnancies -_-

May 30th is my surgery date too! How much are you looking to lose? I would like to lose 100-105 pounds. Good luck!

My surgery date is also set for May 30. I hope to lose 130-140 lbs. I am kind of in a daze about the whole ordeal. A little nervous and a little excited. Also concerned about excess skin.

Many people have raved about palmers skin tightening lotion. I recently purchased some but I can't comment on its effectiveness yet. As far as loose skin is concerned- it does depend on a lot of things: age, weight, how long you have been heavy, etc. wit working out pre and post op will definitely help.

I am also having surgery on May 30th and loose skin has been one of my bigger worries. I'm hoping that being younger and weight training will benefit me, but I guess I will have to wait and see...Best of luck to everyone having surgery on May 30th! :)

I also worried about loose skin.. at the end of the day I'd rather have loose skin than the fat and you can always work out and if it came down to it.. get a Tummy Tuck ;)

Hi this answer is late but better late then never.. I was watching dr oz.. and there is a herbal pill that supposedly helps eith the elasticity of the skin... my friend tried it she looks great its called L-cartosine.. research it... I think when I get sleeved I'm gonna try it considering I reduse to take the heartburn meds

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
