I'm new to this group and don't really know what I'm doing. I am scheduled for surgery May 29th and I am very excited. I am currently doing my pre-surgery diet. My weight today is 267 but my highest weight was 290. I am only 5 feet tall so I need to get this weight off. Being overweight has been a life long struggle for me. I look forward to being a better healthier version of me. If anyone wants to be friends or and support each other in this adventure I'm in. :-)

Welcome! I'm on day 6 of my 2 week preop diet. I'm just now getting to the point where I'm not miserable most of the day - I have my moments. And I've learned to appreciate chicken broth.< /p>

Welcome to the neighborhood newbie :)

we all have our different features - tall, short, loud or quiet

but.............our common denominator is our weight, past, present and future

we all have had our weight issues

we 99.9%/most of the times are very supportive, especially to nice people like you ^_^

"we've" walked in your shoes, sometimes tripping, but we tie our shoes and stand up again

ask away with all your questions!!!! :)

WLS one week from wednesday???

holy moly, stay calm - little nerves are perfectably understandable

take care

happy WLS

speedy recovery

kathy

Thanks Kathy! I am so glad I found this app. My family is SUPER supportive but it's nice having people who are going through what you are. I'm excited.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
