Help! 10 days post-op sick all the time!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had Sleeve on May 8th. Got fever, vomiting from UTI in hospital. Doctor put me on antibiotics for three days.

I have had horrible diarrhea since last Sunday. Also burning in my stomach most of the time. Today started Pepcid and have had three Immodium. I am weak, exhausted and never feel satisfied in my stomach. I have adjusted my diet but nutritionist said I need to be adding the extras to my shake.< /p>

Had a delicious scrambled egg this morning, but diarrhea again. Sweating just walking from room to room. This is so not what I expected.

Any suggestions for meds or foods to try?

Wow, sounds like a rough start!

I was on an acid reducer from day 1 - it may take a week or so for your new one to kick in.

How much Fluid are you getting in? That alone can make a HUGE difference in how you're feeling. Dehydration is easy and it's the worst feeling.

I do yogurt everyday for Breakfast (that might be really helpful for you after all of those antibiotics) and lots of homemade Soups or chilis - even at 19 weeks out, I am ultra protective of my new stomach and just tend to gravitate to those items that will digest easily, provide me with Protein, fluid and Fiber.< /p>

Hang in there, it gets easier!!!

Thanks

I'm eating yogurt every day. Just started Pepcid so should kick in. Getting in my 64oz of Water. Scared I will get dehydrated since shakes/food go straight through me. I feel like I am experiencing the "dumping" that Bypass people get.

Did you let your Dr. know what your experiencing? I had a rough start too and was hospitalized for a few weeks.

Please call your dr. and discuss your situation.

Sorry you're having a hard time…no fun

Are you eating lots of dairy? Sometimes after the surgery you can become lactose intolerant, I know this first hand because it happened to me. Check the ingredients of your Protein Shake and see if it contains milk.

Sweating I had really bad, 6 mos post op and I still sometimes get flushed but not like the beginning. It would be cold and rainy and I would have to go outside with little on because I was sweating so bad. So I can sympathize, believe me everyday gets better. It just takes some of us a little longer.

Keep up on your liquids is #1. I did lots of ice chips because even Water made me vomit. I purchased a liquid whey Protein from Walmart, I take 1 oz and blend it with water and freeze it and make ice chips. It is a little over 3 oz tube and 1 oz is 14 grams of protein! I just had a hard time with chocolate and vanilla shakes, they felt "heavy" no matter how watery I would make them. I also ordered lactose free shakes from injury. The strawberry Sorbet is really good.

You should also notify your doctor of your symptoms.

Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks everyone.

I am using nectar shakes which are Lactose and gluten free.

I was mixing with skim milk but stopped thinking it could be the problem.

I have discussed with doctor and nutritionist. Had chest X-ray and bunch more blood work this week. All came back normal.

I'm convinced the antibiotics in my virgin belly did a number on me. Combined with acid, my belly is sad.

I think all would be manageable if I didn't have the diarrhea. The Immodium may help.

If you have any other suggestions...post them. Oh and I just started Probiotics too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
