hope4health 4 Posted May 18, 2013 I think I had an allergic reaction to the tape they used in the hospital. Below is a picture of what I am dealing with currently. Are there any nuses here who could recommend something? I have been taking Benadryl but it doesn't appear to be clearing up. Had surgery May 13 (last Monday) and this has been there since. Nurses did not comment on it at all and never saw Dr. Kelly again to show him. Sorry for the graphic photo.

hope4health 4 Posted May 18, 2013 Will be seeing my family doctor on Tuesday as this is a long holiday weekend here in Canada. I just might suck it up and go to the hospital although it doesn't seem like an emergency.

zoey1176 58 Posted May 18, 2013 Does it itch or burn? I work at a pharmacy let me ask what the pharmacist recommends, but it looks really bad.
nervousnellie 50 Posted May 18, 2013 I am allergic to latex, but have never had a reaction that severe. It definitely could be though. Do you have an urgent care clinic you can go to? That may be faster than the ER. I would definitely try to get it looked at sooner rather than later. Good Luck!
nervousnellie 50 Posted May 18, 2013 Also---I know someone whose husband had a severe reaction to the interaction of the betadine solution and adhesive and it resulted in burns. That was super rare, but it happened.
hope4health 4 Posted May 18, 2013 It itches like crazy. Am going to have it looked at today. Will keep you informed.
thetattooedlady 114 Posted May 18, 2013 I am sensitive to that adhesive tape as well. If used for long periods of time, it pulls my skin off and I have reactions similar to this, but never this bad...my goodness that looks painful my dear! Hopefully they can get it sorted out for you at the doctor
loseitsoon 157 Posted May 18, 2013 I had a rash like this after surgey. It lasted 7-10 days and then went away. My doctors weren't concerned about it.

vickialess 20 Posted May 18, 2013 I work at a dermatology office...we see people with reactions to antibiotic ointment and bandage/tape all the time..we always have them change to Vaseline, and plain gauze with paper tape. You can put over-the-counter hydrocortisone on the rashy areas, not near the little incisions though. That should help calm the inflammation down..I hope that helps!! wrightgirl1965 4 Posted May 18, 2013 Mine looked like that too. It got better in a couple of days. It was a tape allergy.
janarae 93 Posted May 18, 2013 I get that everytime, I haven't found out what causes it but its annoying. When I had my sleeve in Mexico the gauze strip they used didn't do that but I can't find it in the states. I'm so sorry
