5-18-13 & it had been exactly one year since I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. At my highest weight, I was 358, at the start of my pre-op diet, I was 338, on the day of surgery, I was 288. Today, I'm 193 pounds. (I'm 5'7) From a size 30 jeans, 30/32 tops to a MD top, & size 12 jeans. May 28th I will have my corset Trunkplasty to remove my excess stomach skin. My surgeon estimated 15-18 pounds of skin & from a 12 to an 8. Mentally, I struggle everyday because I feel like I should be smaller. But I've been exercising HARD since my 6 month pre-op diet, following my surgeons plan to a T. Not much else I could've done. I just have to love myself & where I am, but I'm going to keep on pushing towards my goal!

Wow!! Congrats!! You look amazing. How do you find a surgeon to remove your excess skin? I've been thinking about that and don't have a clue

To be honest, I asked my Bariatric surgeon who he recommended. Then I did research on the local plastic surgeons, & ended up choosing my surgeons recommendation. :)

Wow! You look great! Your progress and others like you inspire me and give me the confirmation that I'm making the right decision, and that the financial investment is worth it. I'm almost a quarter inch shy of 5'7", and I look forward to those sizes. In fact, I told my husband that my goal size is an 8 ( I'd like to keep some curves). However, I know that like you I WILL DEFINITELY need plastic surgery. I have had 4 kids and the elasticity of my skin sucks (please excuse my verbiage). I'm curious of the cost. Would you mind sharing?

Kristie, you ARE small! Take a good look at your arms and legs and just overall size...the excess skin is what's dictating your clothing size right now.

You've done a phenomenal job!

I don't mind at all. The total for the corset, including facility & anesthesia was $8600.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
