It will probably be a bit of an info exchange in both directions. I was asked about basic health history and weighed/measured to determine my official BMI, then spoke with the nurse practitioner in more detail about why I wanted WLS and how I struggled with weight issues in the past. My surgeon really didn't stay long, it was a bit of a drive-by. I got most of my questions answered by the nurse-prac anyway, so that was fine. I also left the office with a big binder of information about the sleeve surgery, with tabs where I could put notes, information from my nutritionist, recipes and lists of things I'll need post-op.

The office made sure I had a checklist of follow-up appointments in the form of a printed chart; it's been like a dayplanner for making sure I know what appointment is next and what I still need to do before my next surgeon visit.

As far as what your questions might be--I recommend reading as much as you can here on the forums. You may find some topics you want to ask your surgeon about, or you might find your questions get well-answered right here! Good luck!

Hope this helps!

If this is your first visit then for me it was quick. I filled out a bunch of paper work. They wanted to know what diets I have done and dates I did them. They needed my signature everywhere, and other info.

I was called to the back where they weighed me and took me to a room. I talked to the person who was going to be sending all my stuff to my insurance when I finished everything. We discussed everything I have done so far and what I still needed to do.

My doc came in last and let me ask my questions. I asked things like how long would I be in the hospital, whether I would have a drainage tube and or catheter. I actually posted my questions to one of my VLOG posts.

Good luck!

My first visit i was wanting to get lap band so my surgeon took time to talk me out of that bc it wasn't the best option for me...... Then i got weighed in blood press checked a lil background and then she told me all the requirements i needed and started me on my way they set all my appts and then took care of all my referrals and that was that:) i was there maybe 30 min the hospital sent my paper work to me prior too first visit so they had most of.my info already which cut down some time

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
