Recommended Posts

I just got back from a 5+ mile hike with my husband. The elevation change was only 700 feet

BUT IT WAS EASY!!! I could of done a lot more and was able to hold a conversation all the way through :) when we were on our way back I felt so good, I felt like a could have jogged part of the trail!

That's all :)

Update: I should say that my husband wore a 40 pound pack because he's getting ready to hike slot canyon next week and we just got home he's dropping me off so he can go to the gym and work his upper body... But I still feel good even though I'm married to superman :D

:) He is. You know he didn't want me to have this surgery at first... But now he's so happy because we are getting our life back and he sees how happy I am!

I have to say, I didn't think I could do this, lose weight again. I'm almost 47 and the last few years I've felt my life slipping away from me.

I was on high blood pressure meds and every time I climbed our stairs at home I knew my time was getting near (out of breath, heart palpations)

Now I run up those damn stairs. I am blessed, I really am, I've gotten an opportunity to live longer AND enjoy it.

Wow after reading this I should exercise more!

It really made me happy :D

Yeah Amy we are lucky and live with the mountains and the beach within minutes :)

It does make it nicer to exercise!

You know that's the thing when I think of exercise I think of the gym.. And really I hate it!

But things like today? It's different it's beautiful and I truly feel like I'm happy and making progress in my health and weight.

This is so very close to my life and my vision for the future. My husband is tentative (major surgery and all the risks) but has become my biggest fan in this area of my life too, as he's been in every other. Heart palpitations and out of breath - very real and very eye opening (literally).

I applaud your success. You encourage me!

I know it's a tired saying but it's so true...

"If I can do it anyone can!" Really I'm doing it at a lazy slug like snails pace, but I'm doing it!

I'm glad your husband is on board this will benefit you AND him. I can start living life again.

I'm looking forward now, to us being alone again,

After those ingrates that we call kids leave :P

And traveling and having fun!

Last year at this time and I must say and a few years before that, I started becoming a shut in. I didn't leave the house, it took all my willpower just to pickup my son from school :(

I get up shower now and don't feel embarrassed to leave the house anymore!

That's so awesome, Laura!! I'm so happy that you're able to do the fun things your Superman husband wants to do - and what a pretty area you live in, too!! Can't wait til I can go on birdwatching hikes with my best friend. He's had this hobby for a few years now and goes on 2-3 hour hikes ALMOST EVERY DAY. I would love to be able to join him for one (tho I'd probably drive him nuts due to my inability to shut the hell up). :)

What a wonderful day for you! :)

You sound exactly like me. I've felt the same way for far too long. Thank you so much for the inspiration. It's very much needed :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
