Be sure to read your list of foods and drinks that you are allowed to have during the first week of post-op, for you probably won't feel like going to the store, etc. Be sure to be up to date on your meds and Vitamins as well. Since you will be pretty much getting rest I would recommend obtaining intertainment materiels, being books, dvd's, games, etc. to keep you occupy while resting. I made the error and went shopping the day following surgery as I felt great and probably pushed myself too much. Also lifted firewood, etc. when I was told not to do so. So rest as much as possible, be comfortable and let you body heal.

SF popsicles got me thru the first week. It was the only Fluid source my new stomach would tolerate. I think I went through 6 boxes of them.

I just hope I can tolerate all that sweet tasting stuff. I'm more of a savory girl myself, so I can see myself with the broths but all the other stuff might be too sweet for me. :(

Gas-X! A lot of people like the strips, but I prefer the gelcaps. I am 9 days out and still take 2-3 a day. The gas in my stomach is crazy!

liquid Tylenol, sugar free Popsicles, and I liked the Syntrax Nectar fruit flavored Protein Shakes - went down way easier than the thicker milk based ones. I used 16 oz Water plus ice and they literally saved me for the first 3 weeks.

Low sodium chicken broth is saving me. Sleeved May 8th. Having a hard time with shakes and plain Water is icky. Also having 2-3 sf pops a day.

Pops as in soda?

Noooooooo. Popsicles. No soda...no carbonated beverages after surgery

Try Knorrs Tomato bouillon. It's high in sodium but a few sips does wonders to cut all the sweet.

Thank you for that suggestion! I keep thinking I'm just going to puke after sweet, sweet, sweet stuff! If it's high in sodium but I only have a little, then it should be fine....plus, it should make me drink more Water, right? Could be a win-win for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
