Surgery 12/19/06; Day 6 of liquid diet hell

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I finally decided to register here so I could participate. I have been reading so many threads and posts here trying to get as much information as I can. I really appreciate everyone who posts here.

I have my surgery scheduled for Dec. 19th in Mexico with Dr. Rumbaut. I'm on day 6 of my liquid diet and craving a salad with chicken so badly. And to think I have two more weeks of this after surgery??? I hope it gets easier after surgery.

I want one of those cool weight loss trackers a lot of people have, but haven't figured it out yet. I'll keep looking. :grouphug:

I am scheduled for February 9th with Dr Ortiz at that time you will home free and I will starting my misery. The tickers are pretty easy and free just go to your favorite ticker sight look at the bottom of the one you like and follow the directions, they walk you though it.

Welcome to LBT Maurdan

Great to see you here...i have had my lapband for over a year...and although it has taken a bit of sacrifice...ie not being able to eat huge christmas dinners...I do not regret it for the world! I have lost 84lb so far. Best wishes for your surgery...and keep us updated on your progress.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I needed them today because I started to second guess my decision. I leave tomorrow for Mexico.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
