coffee drinkers?

coffee doesn't dehydrate you. This is a common myth. In fact, the mayo Clinic says it hydrates you just as well as Water.< /p>

At my three month follow up visit, I was struggling with water and was worried that I'd end up dehydrated. The nurse told me to DRINK liquids, coffee, tea, water, nothing sugary. From then on I did fine. I have my coffee in the morning, two or three cups, follow up with water and lemon and iced tea. I'll usually make a small pot of coffee in the afternoon and drink two cups.....iced tea or water and lemon the rest of the day. That visit saved me, I'm sure of it!!!!! I never believe it would dehydrate me or stimulate my appetite, it totally kills mine!

Great news! I have also heard that dehydration due to coffee is a myth. I drink lots of coffee and I feel great so I will just keep on doing what I´m already doing.

Yes, agree wholeheartedly with using nestles. I like to put the coconut creamer in my coffee every morning. I do not really succinctly measure, it is more of an eyeballing, timing sort of thing. I would say it is about 2 tbsp. it sure makes a big difference to be able to enjoy coffee every day with creamer. On the weekend, I usually make a point of buying 1-2 16 oz SF mochas with NF milk. Keeps me perky! As for dehydration from coffee, I am not sure it happens. Regardless, I drink 32-64 oz every morning before coffee and then the same after coffee before lunch. I do not think I would be getting dehydrated with that amount of liquids before and after.

I'm planning on drinking coffee after I have my sleeve (on Tuesday...eeep!). My surgeon said Decaf is ok right away, and try to wait 3 months on the caffeinated stuff, along with alcohol and carbonated beverages. I can't wait to have my beloved nonfat Cappuccino with breakfast again...got hooked on them in Rome two years back. Being in the Seattle area, I think there would be an uproar if a surgeon suggested we ban coffee from our diet entirely...he'd/she'd probably go out of business! That being said, if it were essential to maintain your sleeve health, I don't think they would hesitate to make coffee restriction mandatory. I think the key is everything moderation, take it easy and listen to your sleeve!

As I said before, there is no reason to ban coffee at all. My surgeions and my nutritionsit said it´s ok with coffee at all times, the only thing was that you should not add sugar to your coffee.

Oh man, it is hot out this morning at 9 am. 84 degrees F. So I drove down to my favorite barista stand in the area and ordered a 24 oz iced SF mocha with NF and white coffee Beans. It hit the spot and got me all perky too!! I am also being Careful to drink a lot of Water today. Sitting in my chair can feel the sweat dribbling down my chest at 60 % humid and 85 degrees f. I mean, damn, the sweat is dripping off my body just sitting here. I am sure it is hotter where you at, but herein Seattle this is hot. ;)

I'm a coffee fanatic. My hobby is roasting coffee and building coffee roasting machines as well as modifying (improving) coffee equipment (espresso machines and grinders).

I'm pre-op and just attended my first nutritionist session. She said I could drink coffee afterward but I'll check with my surgeon. That would really suck if I could no longer drink coffee. I'd have to find a new hobby and my friends and family would miss their supply of my freshly roasted coffee.

I'm calling my doctor tommorrow ...

It seems like American doctors don´t want you to drink coffee but European doctors sais it´s ok. It´s the same surgery? I´m six weeks post op and I haven´t had any problems at all. They have told me to use lactouse free milk and to stay away from sodas and other sparkling drinks. In Sweden where I live, Decaf is not popular at all. Either you have coffe or you don´t, there is no decaf option.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
