coffee drinkers?

Recommended Posts

I'm also a huge coffee drinker!! I went from drinking a grande coffee with raw sugar and 2% milk to a short coffee with half a Splenda and 2%milk. I still get my fix with very little calories. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Well, in that case I guess it would be ok with regular coffee as long as you compensate it with more fluids?

Every time I go to Starbucks, I get a glass of ice Water as a 'chaser' - I feel a lot better about the amount of coffee I consume on a daily basis. I've never bought the dehydration thing. When the nurse told me to "JUST DRINK, COFFEE, TEA, just not sugary drinks" a weight was lifted for me. I was pretty sure I would end up in the ER because I couldn't drink that much water and my Migraines and all the dyes in the bottled drinks are not good.....and I really don't like those things anyway!!!

I was told to avoid caffeine, but doc said if I must coffee I could do Decaf. Said if I needed a boost to mix it half reg w half decaf. While I loved & had to have at least a cup per day pre op, I may only have a small cup on Fridays (as my treat) & it's mixed.

Just confirmed today that I'm allowed my beloved coffee and tea, just be cautious right after the surgery in case I have any tolerance issues initially, and get in plenty of Water and I'm good to go.

I do like to make my morning Protein shake with fresh brewed coffee (poured over ice to chill) and a glad cup of skim milk. That seems to be enough to hold me for 3-4 hours.

However, I do live in the Seattle area, and yeah, I do indulge in the occasional latte (not this week, though! ). I have gotten away from all the sugar, and generally go for a grande, skinny, sf latte in whatever flavor entertains me that day. I, too, confess to being a Starbucks gold card holder, although I actually usually go to a small locally owned stand. I fully expect to continue my occasional treat, albeit in a short size age I get past the first several weeks post surgery

Oh I'm DOING this. If they tell me to wait, I'll wait. But it's going to happen. Oh yes! Protolatte here I come!

It makes me much happier, for sure. It feels like I'm indulging in being normal without sabotaging myself.

By the way, glad should have been half, as in I use 3-4 oz. of skim milk along with a full cup of coffee, chilled so the Protein won't get clumpy. It does work fine to make Decaf drinkable, too, I found out at work today :)

So here is my question. I have always drank coffee, and even weeks leading up to surgery, so now they say no coffee before this surgery and I get it dehydrates you, but Im drinking tons of Water and have lost 10lbs in one week on pre op diet. So why cant I have a little coffee? I think I am going to get one from starbucks today anyway. I miss it.

There may be some affect of caffeine on the organs affected by surgery. Or even anaethesia. I'd follow the doc's orders as best you can.

i drink a cup of Decaf coffee with sugar-free hazelnut creamer and 1 packet equal in it every morning.

if i'm on the go, i pour it into my blender, add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder and 3 ice cubes and whirrrrrr....instant iced coffee and you don't even taste the Protein. yeah!

I'm a huge starbucks mocha fan, but I'm cheap with my money. I started brewing my own coffee and I blend it with a splash of natural bliss mocha coffee creamer, 1.5 scoops of gnc's wheybolic extreme 60 chocolate Protein, ice, and a packet of sweetner. I'm happy, because I get my caffeine kick and protein in one.

coffee doesn't dehydrate you. This is a common myth. In fact, the mayo Clinic says it hydrates you just as well as Water.< /p>

I was told no coffee immediately after surgery, because caffeine irritates your fresh cut stomach! BEFORE surgery, I was told to (and I did) wean off of it slowly to avoid the withdrawal headaches. It would have sucked to have that first week of recovering from surgery also having a caffeine withdrawal headaches! During my 2 week pre-op I went from 12 oz daily down to 4 oz, and by the time I had surgery it was all good. HOWEVER, now I'm 5 weeks post surgery and I'm SO ready to have some coffee! I've decided to wait til the weekend to try it, just in case it does upset my tummy. Want to avoid emergencies at work ;)

I use Click in my morning Protein shake. I get my caffeine, it adds good Protein and it tastes good!

I'm 8 months out and I'll drink coffee with sugar free creamer and Splenda if I'm seriously dragging butt!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
