******** 397 Posted May 17, 2013 Does anyone know any other reason besides dehydration that causes deep and wiggly veins? The nurses always have issues getting to my veins in my arms and so I ask them to do it in my hand. Some say they dont do it in the hand so I end up with a large bruise from them poking at me. I drink about a 1/2 to 1gallon of Water per day and have for a while (about 3 years and this has always been an issue. I'm pre op btw. What can I do to get my veins to show? HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted May 17, 2013 Some people just have genetically deep veins. Mine are deep and tiny. Whenever I have to see the phlebotomist, I tell him/her that she gets a prize if she draws blood on the first try! haha. I think my worst draw was the time it took 7 tries between 2 different phlebs. They had to try both arms and both hands.
SmilingEyes 29 Posted May 17, 2013 i can surely relate to this... i always tell the phlebotomist that i am stingy.. i just don't give blood they have to beat it out of me. LOL.
******** 397 Posted May 17, 2013 Thanks...my veins on my hands are easy to find so I ask them to go there when possible but I hate being told I'm dehydrated lol.
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted May 17, 2013 My veins are so deep, sometimes nurses can't even find a pulse on me.
Iniysa 157 Posted May 17, 2013 I have one good vein in my right arm and even if you use it it won't work for long, it's a temporary vein I guess. Lol. If you need to set up an IV you have to go into my hand.
fattie 53 Posted May 17, 2013 Im the same. I have always had deep veins. I just cant stand or take it when they dig around to get the vein and then blow it. I had a nurse one time, she put one band above my elbow and one on my forearm. She got it with one stick. She told me to tell future medical staff to do that instead of digging around and blowing veins.
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted May 17, 2013 Yeah, the digging around is the worst! I can't watch when they do that
