Medicard

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

So I am looking at this Medicard brochure that I got at Dr. Cobourns. Has anyone used them to help pay for the surgery? Are they any good? I see that they do automatic debit from your account. That always makes me nervous and the fact that they don't advertise the interest also is a little unnerving. Please let me know what your story is with them, if any. :help:

I too don't have an answer for you Dame J, I'm curious myself though. Let me know if you look in to it further.

I would also be nervous about using Medicard. You may be better off getting a line of credit from your bank, probably a lot lower interest.

I did. Twice. The interest rates are higher, but they are willing to negociate. And you don´t have to explain what you are doing to people that may know you.

Good luck. Really though no problems here!

I used Medicard as well. They will negociate on the interest rate, and mine is just a bit more than our line of credit (which is full). They will also allow you to decide on how long you want to take to pay, so the monthly deductions are affordable. They were very pleasant to deal with.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your replies. I called Medicard and talked to them about all my concerns. We were able to work out a decent interest rate that is lower than what they wanted I am sure but is a rate that I can be comfortable with. I am waiting to sign the papers till I go over them at least a hundred times but I think I will use Medicard after all.

I was going to use my bank for a loan but I have relatives that work for the bank I use and I am not telling ANYONE (but mom) about this so I really didn't want to go that route.

Anyway I am feeling a lot more comfortable with this decision. SO again thanks for all your replies.

I used them too. I dealt with a woman named Tania and she was wonderful. I did this to avoid telling anyone I knew here. Since I live in Alberta, I had to get my signature notarized. I had a lawyer go over the paperwork and notarize at the same time. There are no loop holes. You can pay it out early without penalty (which I was concerned about).Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
