Some people are instructed to avoid caffeine forever, some have it in the hospital. I was advised to avoid it until 3 weeks but to make sure I am getting my Water in. It can be a diuretic and can be sour in your stomach.

I started drinking it 3 weeks after surgery. Decaf after about 10 days. I still can only drink about 1/2-2/3 of a cup but it's enough for me and tastes so good.

It's funny how we all have the same surgery but everyone gets different pre-op and post op instructions.

I was approved to have regular coffee after 6 weeks. I have about 12 ounces of Decaf iced coffee each morning. I live coffee.

I know same surgery different instructions. My dietitian told me preop I could have decaf with vanilla Protein Shake as creamer since dairy is a no- no. Thanks for sharing with me.

You may though, want to think about cutting your caffeine out slowly on your pre op so you don't get caffeine headaches. I started doing half calf then went to Decaf. Then after surgery, I did decaf then half calf then on to the good stuff. It's hard enough to go through this without caffeine headaches.

Ok There is so much information to take in but I'm definitely going to switch to decaf once I begin my pre-op diet on the 27th.. I have the sleeve surgery on June 11. And only 10 ounces in the a.m.

I agree with slowly dropping caffeine. I did the same thing pre op. Half calf to no vaccine slowly and I didn't get the headaches or anything. I still only do decalf now too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
