Concentrate on your Water and just sip. Ifother things are painful then you need to wait longer for your swelling to lessen and then you can try again. Main concern is water. Stay hydrated... Whatever it takes.. Drink your water

Good luck

I notice spasms with almost every sip or swallow. But just back off and try again. 3 days post op. have done warm tea. Sips of black coffee, Misso Soup broth (my fav)

Green sugar free Jello and crushed ice with white grape juice mixed. Slw and steady. Have used gas x strips earlier today. It helped. Also heating pad.

Tomorrow is full liquids but I expect to go back to clear a few times also. Excited o try my Premier Protein drinks. No hunger.

Lots of spasms in stomach muscle when I got to sit up or lay down.

I am a week out and still having spasms. I have been assured it is normal and will improve! I do notice that plain Water is the worst.

Good luck in your recovery!

I am 5 days post op and I started yesterday with some little stinging shooting pains in my stomach. I think its gas pains but not sure. Is this what y'all mean by spasms?? I also get a crampy feeling with every sip of anything.

My surgeon told me my stinging pains were muscles spasms. Felt like bee stings. I didn't have anything but ice chips then sips of Water for two days after surgery. Then I had to drink 4oz of Protein Drink with no prob before I could go home the third day. I felt fine after surgery considering I had had most of my stomach cut out. Up and walking and all. But I can't imagine how some of these people can go home the day of surgery or the day after.

That's exactly what it feels like-little bee stings that catch me off guard. I was getting worried that maybe I had a leak or something else wrong.

NO!! The gas you feel is not in your intestines so the gas x won't help anyway. They fill your abdomen up with an air mixture to give them more room to move around. It has to be absorbed through your cells. The more you get up and walk, the faster it will go away! As for the other, remember to take tiny sips and try not to swallow air. It takes practice but does get better. Glad you feel great otherwise!

A heating pad works great for the shoulder pain.

Shoulder/back discomfort here too. Only left shoulder. Passed a gal walking in the hall & hers was left shoulder also.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
