TES 858 Posted May 15, 2013 I just had my 3-month post-op appointment and my surgeon said it's pretty much unavoidable. Generally your hair falls out 3 months after the event that triggered it, so my surgeon stresses the importance of Protein immediately post-op. I got all of mine in and am still losing hair, but I figure it could be worse and maybe the protein kept it at bay somewhat. My hair is past my shoulders so I think even a small loss looks like more because the hair is longer. I take Biotin and surgeon said he doesn't know if it helps, but it can't hurt. I have also heard that zinc might help, but I don't take it. The surgeon also said the surgery itself and the anesthesia can trigger Hair loss. Mine started at 10 or 11 weeks. Hopefully this too shall pass.

I would want to use one with no animal products and not tested on animals, since I'm a vegetarian. Thanks so much! Great to have your professional advice. Thanks so much! Great to have your professional advice.[/quote'] Nioxin is the "brand" it is gluten free & NOT tested on animals (per PETA website) they actually carry different formulas for chemically treated to natural & for different levels of hair loss. I've actually seen clients have a noticeable improvements. (product should only be trusted if purchased from a salon tho) Ps. JCPenney salons have good sales on it & often put it on clearance racks...
No game 14,437 Posted May 15, 2013 Ok 6 months out here.. Did everything right (vitamins, Protein, supplements) and guess what? It fell out my surgeon told me during pre op that it will happen even had to sign a form saying I understand this... Mine started at 4 months and was pretty scary for a while there! Clogged drains and was all over the bathroom. But in the last couple of weeks it's back to just a normal amount of daily shedding. I was prepared to use hair fibers if it got bad enough, but as bad as it seemed to me no one else sees what I'm talking about... So I guess what I'm saying is yes it happens but it's livable. Oh and on days like today when I'm out shopping and buying clothes I don't really care 3 Snow, belladona and Pixie Dust reacted to this
luckysmomma 407 Posted May 15, 2013 I am taking Biotin and prenatal Vitamins for my hair. I started using Organix Biotin and collagen shampoo/conditioner (purple bottle - Walmart). I started styling my hair less and less using styling products. I am ten weeks out - dread the day it starts falling out...I have thick hair to nearly my waist...it is all I got as far as looks - I dread it! I am yet to see anybody post that it didn't stop, so hopefully, we all will make it through! Good luck!
mandyrenee82 59 Posted May 15, 2013 Try Garnier Fructis fall fight Shampoo and conditioner and products. It has Biotin and caffeine in it to help with Hair loss and breakage. I lose my hair because of pcos and I've noticed a big difference since starting this regime. I hope it continues to help when I hit that 3-4 month mark too. 1 szingaro222 reacted to this
nsquared 232 Posted May 15, 2013 I am 3 months post op and my hair is falling out. I've decided to live with it because it seems like there is not much to be done about it based on what I have read...and I refuse to gulp down one more pill! It is a matter of degree, I guess. The only person to comment was my hair dresser (no one else has noticed) but of course, she's very familiar with my hair. I am hoping I stop shedding in a month or two but it is really sad watching my hair come out.

NMJG 1,266 Posted May 15, 2013 How many grams of Protein a day are y'all eating and still having hair fall out? My NUT recommends 80 - 100.
happydaisy 48 Posted May 16, 2013 I get in abt 50grams of Protein in. I realize it's low but I just can't take in any more than that. I hear that it doesn't make a difference anyway. I started losing hair at 3 1/2 months out and now being 5mths, it is really starting to fall out. Oh well. I got a hairpeice to blend with my hair now so my hair won't look so thin. While making sure you are nutritionally sound with sufficient Protein may help ensure that you don't lose additional hair due to poor nutrition, the cause of the hair loss is the trauma to the body. Any major surgery can result in some hair loss, as can major rapid weight loss. Some lose very little, others lose more. It will grow back in the following weeks and months. Youngun 53 Posted May 17, 2013 I am 6 months out and haven't had any hair loss! Am I the only one?! I don't always get enough Protein in and I forget to take my Biotin quite often :S I think maybe I lost weight a bit slower than most, so perhaps that's why I didn't lose a noticeable amount of hair. My hair is au natural right now - it's usually blonde, but I didn't want to keep doing it blonde after surgery because I was paranoid about the hair loss! But! When it was blonde and damaged I took "biosil" it's a modified version of silica (horsetail supplement) that is absorbed and used much easier than the silica from horsetail supplements. I doubt it stops Hair loss, but it made my hair WAY healthier and shinier! Can't hurt!
