Seanja You look great. There will always be judgmental people that just cant be happy. Oh well, gotta ignore the haters. Glad you are able to indulge every now and then and still loose weight like a boss :)

We all have to do what we feel is RIGHT for US, and not criticize others. For us that have met our goal, we know we are not going to eat a bagful like we used to, now it may be a handful, and we (I) am satisfied. The only thing I stay away from is bread and carbonation. I eat pizza, with the thin crust only. but will not eat a piece of bread (too thick and too hard on tummy) We learn what we can and cannot eat successfully. My eating habits are so very different now than before I started this journey. Too each their own, we all have to live with our decisions. Best of luck to you all.

thank you Hun. Your right it is a balance that I've found. No way I'm gonna fall back into my old habits. I love the new me. I love being able to shop and by the type of clothes I want to wear. I love being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I'm going to pass out' date=' most importantly I love my chances of seeing my children's children graduate college. Thank u again. You're so welcome! And thank you! One month down, a lifetime to go. What you just described literally was like taking the words out of my mouth. I want all of those things. I'm taking my son to disneyworld for the first time in March, and I can't tell you how happy I am that I won't be as heavy as I was. I actually look forward to our trip and making memories with him. I want him to see his mama being active and enjoying myself with him.

What is a Mexican coke? I'm pre-sleeve, so I can't really chime in here on the popcorn issue. I will say I've read studies about the psychology of obese people, and one thing we all seem to have in common ( at least, at some point in the journey) is an all-or-nothing mentality. My view is that we have to be responsible for ourselves--and not for everyone else--and aiming for moderation is probably a good goal, just from a mental health standpoint. Okay, enough. What's a Mexican coke again?

Lol!! Coke In a bottle. From Mexico. Has a slightly different taste. A better taste. Ohhhhhh Kay I don't wanna talk about soda. Lol

I've never met a hater that was doing better than me. Lol

Throw 1/3 of a cup of popcorn into a brown paper lunch bag, microwave 2 1/2 minutes. Perfectly popped. No oil or fat.

I haven't tried popcorn yet but I am going to check with my Dr. next week at my 4 wk checkup. I'm craving it too!! Plus I can't watch a movie on the big screen without it. It's just not natural!

I just ate some trader joes popcorn cooked in olive oil with a hint of salt. Was this a bad idea? I work out 4 times a week and have a physical job. Im 7 weeks post op. I think I deserve a little popcorn.

What struck me about your post was these words: "I think I deserve a little popcorn."

The "I deserve (food item of choice here)" attitude is what got us all fat to begin with. As post-ops, we should never be thinking of any food item as something we DESERVE. food is fuel. It can (and should) be enjoyable, but it is energy for our body, period. We should not be rewarding ourselves with food anymore! Our relationship with food has to change. I would say find something else to reward yourself with besides food, or you'll be one of those statistics that scares the bejeebers out of all WLS folks........................good luck!

popcorn is a slider food for me, I can eat a lot of it. That's why I rarely have it. :)

If you're craving something (that can be safely eaten) eat it in moderation!!! If you don't, sometimes you end up doing more harm just trying to compensate the craving with other things...

Danelle, my surgeon gave it to me with my surgery packet. It was listed as foods to avoid in the meal plan. It is things that are hard to digest. popcorn, larger seeds like in blackberries and boysenberries. also seeds with a hazardous shape like caraway seeds that can get stuck. Coconut is another thing that your body does not digest and can create a blockage. Your stomach can't "flush out" the way it did before surgery unless you stretch it back out. Things that are fibrous like asparagus are also more difficult but you may be able to eat those by cooking them until they are tender, eventually. Most healthy things you will be able to eat the farther out you get.

My NUTs and PA said to achieve long term success you have to accept the reality that there are things you will never eat again. I am in this for the long haul and the only person I hurt by eating unhealthy foods for my redesigned tummy is Me. Drew Carey after losing over 100 pounds once said, "Eating crappy food isn't a reward, it's a punishment!" He was right. Some people may choose to continue to eat wrong, but I am NEVER going back to where I was and am willing to do whatever I have to do to accomplish that! I know too many people with a cavalier attitude about what they are eating, believing that their surgery would save them, and the scales are climbing. One by one they stop coming to the support group. They all bragged about what they "could" eat. What they would eat and now say they wished they never started eating those things again. For me this surgery tamed my hunger beast. The last thing I want to do is wake it up. Think of feeding yourself as if you were feeding a baby. There are a lot of things you wouldn't give them because they are too hard to digest or just simply not healthy. That's really what this surgery does. It gives you a second chance to do it right. It really is just common sense. And most importantly it IS up to you!!

@@melodymouse, My nutritionist and surgeons told me exactly what you wrote above. I couldn't have summed it up any better! Definitely not going against my team's orders...The way I look at it and the reason I don't question my team's orders is because I am not qualified to make an override. I am a librarian & specialize in research...but I know my limitations. I have no medical degree and I personally have not conducted research studies in this area. So, I choose to let such a small thing as popcorn, in the interest of the bigger picture...Go.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
