Hello all! I have been on the age-specific (sixties) support group blog, and just got around to reading all the entries in this 200+ site yesterday. A great source of encouragement. I started at 344# in Nov. 2014, had surgery Feb. 3rd, this year. Going in for my second post op visit today, and am down 70# total. At 5'8", I have at least another 100# to go, and after reading your posts, I know it is possible. Any suggestions for fighting the urge to "graze" while around the house? Not doing it yet, but the urge is surfacing. I have tried the old Weight Watchers trick of brushing my teeth when hungry, but over the years of trying to loose weight, I have brushed nearly all the enamel off. Is this just a phase I will get through?

I don't keep anything in the house I can't have around without worry of binging. If I still feel the urge to nibble, I make myself drink at least 6 -8 ounces of Water first. That usually does the trick.

I was 350 when I started my weight loss journey to being sleeved. It really was the best thing I did. I am just over a year since my op and have done great up until recently when I hit a huge stall but this will hopefully pass.

I currently weigh over 360. I'm about ready to do away with all that! I get sleeved April 16th in Houston, TX.

So glad to have come across this thread!! I'm just starting the WLS process... I'm 5'11 and currently weight 376lbs. I've made my mind up that I want to have the sleeve done.. I just hope when I meet with the surgeon that he agrees! :)

Either way, WLS is the best thing I've ever done. Looking back I think I was very pro VSG. Now, I realize it's hard work either way but much better than having waited for some random diet to work. Best of luck!

Did anyone over 300 pounds have any trouble getting insurance to pay for the sleeve?

I'm in the same boat. I just recently decided to get the sleeve and my first appointment is June 18th. I'm just worried that my insurance will not pay for some reason. I don't have many comorbidities but I'm 5'4" 330 lbs.

I notice that must sleeves are in the high 200's but is there anyone who started higher. My weight day off was 362 give or take a pound....my doctor told me the most common procedure for my weight was the bypass but the long term results are very much the same. Im 5'7" but I definitely strated off way bigger than some posts I see...just curious to know I'd I'm alone lol

I am 5ft 5 and started off at 350 lbs, I was sleeved a year past march and can honestly say it was the best thing I did.

I started at 382 and 5'9 and had the sleeve. I am down to 240 and loving it. I was hesitant to have bypass and preferred the sleeve. I am thrilled with my results so far. Weight loss has definitely slowed down but it keeps trickling off. As long as it's coming off, I'm happy. Good luck to you!

Keep in mind that this procedure is not a "cure all"

You need to remember, that you you need to do to succeed, is to change the way you live. You need to stay committed to your new life change. You need to have it in your head that this is what you want to do. I have people in my support group that are failing. This is because they were not ready to change, they were not ready to take back their life. This is your decision, for you and only for you. My life quote is "there is nothing on that table that looks better than being healthy!" Or being thin. I started my journey on 7/7/14 and I am down 197lbs and counting so I know what I am talking about. This was my decision for me and for me alone and that's why I am winning. Good luck and feel free to send me a message if you need any details.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
