Maryland sleever looking for friends, mentors, support

Recommended Posts

Hi all, looking for people in the area interested out who have experienced the sleeve. I'm four days post opt and super excited, would love to meet people who are experiencing similar things as a mini support system. Both give and receive support of course. Talk to you soon

Hi, where in MD are you? I haven't had my surgery yet, 1 more dr visit on 6/4/13 before insurance approval submission and surgery scheduled.

Congrats on your post op status. I can't wait to be there.

I'm full of emotions! I'm excited, anxious, nervous, etc.

I just want to get insurance approval. I have CareFirst MD who only began approving this procedure for people under 50BMI in March of this year.

I'm between 36-37 w/co-morbidities. I fit the revised criteria, but until I see it say "Approved" on paper, I won't be able to relax.

Oh wow, I didn't know they had those restrictions. My bmi is in the 60s, but I will pray for the approved notice as well! I'm sure it's already in the making

Hello All, I am a newbie. Still trying to learn how to use this site.

I'm also in Baltimore county. I just started the wls program with Kaiser 8/1 and am also a little worried about the insurance process. I was told I have kaiser select so I get to choose between GBMC or Hopkins Bayview for the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
