Hello,

This is my first interaction/post to this forum (even though i've been watching from afar for awhile). This also may be more of a thoughts/opinion thing rather than a question but here goes. I started out with wanting the LAP-BAND surgery around january of this year, so i sent up the appointment for the siminar at my nearest weight specialist. After receiving the info from the presenter, i was basically told that with the amount of weight i need to lose lap-band is not an option. so after reading up on the other options i choose to pursue this. i was set up with a appointment two months later to be told that i was to big to get the operation due to the way i carried my weight. He said i would have to lose at least 80 pounds. He set me up with the nutritionist and we started. its been two months now since i started and i have lost 30 pounds. Went back today to a follow-up and now they wanna speed it up saying that "if i keep it up i should be ready in two months. Fear is kinda setting in now due what i was told by him about if i don't lose the weight i wont make it" now he is saying 60 pounds should do..... what do you think

ps. i also have in my head that if i keep this up i dont need his way?????the surgury... Am i the only one who thought t

It the pre-surgery weight loss requirement just the surgeon's or is it coming from your insurance?

Hi, I had my lap band done in 12/21/11 and although I lost 45 pounds out of my 75 I regretted that I did not have the sleeve. I had nothing with problems with it. I had my revision to sleeve on May 6th and feel great. I battled with the decision for two years before I got the nerver to really do it. My problem wasn't so much the weight but diabetes and other comorbities. I am so happy that I made the decision to go through with it. I eat healthier now, and feel great. Loosing 30 pounds is great you should be proud of yourself. Good luck with your decision.

I somewhat find this interesting. The sleeve procedure was created for the super obese to get them to the point they could have RNY surgery. Not sure why they would want you to drop that much weight before you had the surgery. I could see having a pre-op diet, but now sure why other wise. Good luck though!

That's a tough spot to be in. However, if you think you're doing good on you own, feel free to tell HIM when you want your surgery (not the other way around). Everything should happen on your time so you don't feel like your doctor is rushing you or you're making a life long decision and not being completely ready for it. I was sleeved 05/06 and was crazy nervous. The night before I was searching the internet trying to find a good reason not to have the surgery the next day. So far, so good with no regrets. Good luck to you!

@Chelenka this was coming from the surgeon. @johnlette thats how it was presented at the seminar as well for the overly obese. he also says when i get it ill be on blood thinners and well have to shoot myself with a needle twice a day.

I would try to get another Dr's opinion and also do some more research before proceeding. Congrats on losing 30 lbs already!

I would also recommend getting a second opinion...are there other bariatric surgeons in your area? Continue your research & good job on your initial loss!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
