It's so hard when

Recommended Posts

You have family who doesn't support your choice about this. My aunt is the only family I can rely on and lives near me. But she doesn't want me to do this. When ever I stay over I have to dance around the subject and hide when I'm talking on the phone about it. She thinks there are other ways and the risks and complications aren't worth it. Her opinion means a lot to me but I need this and she makes me question my self every time but every time I keep coming back to I want to get healthy and in order to do so I need restriction

It IS tough when you don't have support! I first considered having WLS 4 or 5 years ago. My husband was totally against it. Last year, I started thinking about it again. My husband was still on the fence about it. After my PCP suggested it - and recommended it! - my husband agreed to go with me to the Informational Meeting that my surgeon hosts once a month. After the meeting, my husband felt better about it, and began supporting my decision. I have tried to keep him involved in the process so he feels like he is part of it. Now that he sees me happy and losing weight, I think he is actually GLAD I did this! I am glad that I didn't do it before he was on board with it - otherwise, it would have made things pretty miserable.

my mom was scared when I first bought the subject up... she went online to do some research and landed on some of the scary videos on youtube.. she stopped talking to me for wanting this surgery...

I later showed her an informational DVD from the surgeon's office (this was mailed home free when I scheduled my first appointment) and then she decided to come with me to the appointment.. she has been on board since.. honestly, now.. she knows more about this surgery than I do..

I wish my aunt could go with me to my first appointment but its on a Tuesday morning so my bf is coming instead. I don't think a information seminar would have eased her mind..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
