I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary in 2 weeks and I'm beginning to feel some dread. If I'm being honest, I haven't put forth much effort these last 4 months and "cheating" has run rampant through my days. I'm not where I thought I would be at this anniversary and I'm disappointed in myself. Anyone else feel this way? Can you start over and get the benefits still? Can you reboot? Have I missed the window? Should you be allowed to post late night rants?

Well my information is that wt. loss starts to slow down at 6 months. The "golden window" is about 18 months. I guess I have no excuse for not doing everything I can to get the most out of this next 12 months. I do know it will be hard, but I think I will foolish if I don't go all out for the next year. I too feel a little bit lazy with my diet and more importantly, my exercise routine. I am slowly but surely re-committing myself to the process. I don't know how to advise you, except that you can start over at any point along the way. Do your best with the time you have left and don't waste all your needed energy, beating yourself up, over things you have or have not done in the past. It probably won't hurt to touch base with your dietician and surgical team to get their take on all this. Be calm and carry on! I wish you the best and I know you can get back on track! Keep reaching out for support too. It is all too important a resource to not utilize in your journey.

Thanks Karen. What a very kind and helpful reply. I really do need to reach out to my team. I've been avoiding then out of pride but we clearly have come too far to let a little pride or some backsliding keep us from our goals. I think the best thing now is too maybe let go of old goals and set new ones.

Hi, I am nearly 4 years out and I backslid and put on 15lbs so I am now actively dieting it off. I found that after the initial fast loss I had to track calories to keep on track and it went much slower. If I can re-lose after that time then you can too! Currently keeping to 800 net calories and exercising and losing around 1.5 to 2 lbs a week. It's not easy but it's doable with the smaller stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
