Call the hospitals up there and ask them if there is a bariatric surgeon that does surgeries at the hospital. I can give you a great dr but he is in Mpls- kind of a drive for fills and appointments. ( tho the drive to Duluth is still one of my favorites and one we do quite often. Can't say the same for the ride home tho!!!)

hey! I'm from Minnesota too! I'm currently living near Minneapolis, but this is the clinic whose informational meeting/consultation I'm going to:

http://www.university.fairview.org/Clinical_Services/Weight/index.asp

I have a consultation near the end of January with Dr. Ikramuddin. I saw his name mentioned here another time, and I've read up on him a bit. Sounds like there's a great group of surgeons out of that hospital. I chose it because my insurance covers surgery there. Hopefully for me!

Good luck!

Hi Neighbors, I'm from South Dakota, originally from MN (twin cities). I will be banded in Mexico in January and am so thankful for this forum. I will be looking for someone to do my fills, possibly in Mpls or Sioux Falls.

I'm from MN. also I live in west central MN. I used to live in Burnsville, MN. Welcome and good luck to you on your weight loss journey. I started my journey in Oct, 2006, and I'm almost to the banding...hopefully, providing my insurance excepts me( so many hoops) but I am willing to do what I have to get healthy. I have chronic back pain, HBP, bad veins..... It sucks! But I'm patiently waiting for the Banding. I can't suggest any Dr. for you but I can tell you this you have come to the right place for support, they are so great here. Good Luck! let us know how it goes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
