Is the sleeve for me?!

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

I am new to this forum and have been considering getting the sleeve for a few months but I am just not 100% sure if it is the right choice for me. I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember and over the years have tried Weight Watchers, U Weight Loss, Paleo diet and other weight loss products. I always have such great motiviation and can follow the programs to a T for the first 2 weeks-2 months but then.... i start cheating a little, and then a little more and then i've completely blown the whole diet and I end up quitting. As well, I am always back to the gym when I start these diets and by the end of it my motivation is sucked dry and I stop going for months at a time. I'm so tired of wasting money on these products and services and its making me so depressed! I love food! but I believe I am ready for a change and I think this is the solution for me. It is permanent though which freaks me out but that is what I need- a permanent life change.

I have researched surgeons and am so close to booking with Dr. Aceves but keep having the "What if" thoughts in the back of my head.

Any thoughts, comments would be so great from all of you Sleevers!!

Thank you!

My mother had the Rxy WLS and she was experiencing the dumping syndrome. She feels flu sick if she eats sugar. So when I started researching the different types of surgery, I chose the sleeve because it is only restrictive and it does not rearrange my intestines. I was sleeved six days ago, and I'm not going to lie to you, the first few days were really hard for me, but each day gets better and better. Ultimately it's only a decision you can make. I wish you all the luck in the world!!

That was my issue- it was all or nothing-- if it was 'a bad meal for Breakfast than the rest of the day was shot' it was the consistency that the fleece offered that I knew was right for me!

Research and know ahead of time it could be slow or fast that u lose

And it will not fix any head or emotional hunger

It does help w portions when u have a shitty day!!!

Good luck! Consider seeing a therapist to assist w the before/ after emotional issues- u can go to edrefferal . Com and find so do e who specializes w all eating disorders

It helps!!! :) good luck

Look within u and see if this is 'right for u'

U may always be a lil scared or have what ifs-- but for me---- it was worth it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
