Feeling a bit down today...

Recommended Posts

So I'm a little down today. And trying really hard not to get depressed. I had my surgery 4 months ago, January 8th to be specific. And for the past month my hair has been consistently falling out. I've always had a head full of hair, thick, curly nice length hair! As I washed and blow dried my hair my edges have completely thinned, my hair is not as thick and I'm seeing bald areas in spaces. I'm really regretting my surgery at this point. I wanted to lose weight and I'm noticing great results. But I don't want to see those results at the expense of my hair... I've never been a weave/wig girl, unless it was braided. I'm just fearful that I'm gonna be bald by the time this whole ordeal is over. Some one please speak some hope and positivity over me...

Hon, it will grow back. It is normal to lose hair after this surgery. I have NEVER heard of someone whose hair did not grow back. In the meantime, get creative with hair accessories. Some folks have their hair grow back thicker!

I feel you. We had surgery about a week apart and I am also losing hair.

I have always had long, thick, curly hair. In high school they called me "curly sue." (Hence my name on this forum).... I (& others) always said my hair was my best feature, it's what I've been known for, so it's sad to see it go. And yes, I knew it would happen, just hoped it wouldn't be so bad...

I guess my words aren't much of a "pick me up," sorry! I just wanted you to know you are not alone.

Lol! It's ok, you did give me a little chuckle though... But we are similar in that area. Everyone would always ask what I do to my hair to keep it so healthy and full. But anyway, I'm hoping it stops soon. And though I knew of the possibility of my hair coming out, it's just so drastic. But thank you!

And to Serenity1959 thank you for your encouragement! I appreciate it. I'm trying not to get stuck here and look at the good instead of dwelling on my hair. Or lack there of...

Thanks Sharon! And yes I take Biotin daily. I think that's part of my issue. I've done everything, I've been taking my Vitamins including biotin since before my surgery and though I have had a few moments where my Protein didn't quite make it, for the most part I get my Protein in. But I appreciate your prayers and kind words :-)!

I was sleeved 11 months ago, and my hair fell out pretty bad till about 5 months out, and I took Biotin twice a day starting 2 weeks before my surgery. Just remember that it will grow back. I always told people that I would rather be thin and bald than fat and hairy, because I can buy some hair!

I have very short, fine hair anyway so I figure I'm screwed for a little while when the hair starts shedding but still think the overall outcome will be worth it:)

This is a frightening thing for us to go through. We are warned about the Hair loss in the beginning but when it happens, we all get freaked out. The good news is, your on the way to a healthier lifestyle with many extra benefits to come. Your hair for your finest asset and will be again bc it does grow back rather rapidly too......Gosh, my Hair growth drives me crazy because I have to die it more often because of the rapid hair growth.....And I am pretty close to my goal (personal) I've already made my Dr's goal. I love my body image and size now too..... I'm 5'6" and I weight in at 145 at the present moment.... Yep, this is fabulous so I hope you can get a smile and see how wonderful life is going to be....... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
