Anyone feeling my pain?

Recommended Posts

I'm about a month out, had surgery April 16. I've now lost about 50lbs since surgery. Not exercising much. Get a little walking in. Currently I cannot eat anything with substance which sucks as I now have an petite. anything with substance causes too much gas which builds up in my chest and I'm throwing up for an hour (at least it seems that long) gas and finally the substance. So I'm having problems with getting Protein down.

I'm suppose to have at least 64oz of fluids and not getting half of that. The gas pain is so uncomfortable that I'm afraid of eating or drinking anything that will cause it.

I'm also tired of the liquid options. Don't eat Soup and so tired of the sweet tasting sugar-free options.

Reached out to my surgeon who wants to see me this week. They said to keep getting fluids in and as long as I'm urinating I should be okay until then.

Can tell you I'm not happy with the post op recovery, but looking forward to the end results.

I am 2 months out and have extreme difficulty with solid Protein (chicken steak lunch meat etc). one ounce will cause constant burping and twice I have spit up. My surgeon and Nut said not too worry. if I cannot tolerate it then eat softer protein like beef chili, ground turkey or beef etc. i can manage that just fine. He said that sooner or later will be able to eat a lot more so take advantage of this time when you can't to lose as much weight as possible. of course if solid stuff makes you burp and throw up then stop eating it and then you will have room to get in fluids. I also just bought premier Bars at SAMs club to help supplement and also liquid egg white. the white has the most protein and if I leave out yoke I can fit more. it is pasteurized so can be added to drinks if desired like "orange Julius type smoothies". I also bought black bean burgers there and look forward to trying that. At 4 weeks I was mostly on mushy anyway and the NUT always said if next stage doesn't work just stay in current stage longer and try again a week later. it may be frustrating to stay on soft or shakes but it will only be temporary. you are doing so great. just be a little more patient and tolerance will come in time. I am 2 months out and 32 pounds down so be very happy with 50 in less than a month!

have you tried using gas-x? or beano? beano you take before you eat and it helps prevent gas.

It is normal not to be able to get in all your liquids at first. Are you on a PPI? You may be having head hunger and a PPI will help.

The first 5 or 6 weeks was the hardest thing I've ever endured. I was worried initially because I wasn't getting enough liquid in either much less food, but eventually I was able to start tolerating things without much problem and now just over 3 months I've not found anything I cannot tolerate. I also can drink Water pretty darn fast. As much as 25ozs in only 15 minutes or less. I can only eat about 1oz of Protein meat, which isn't much compared to the "average" person over 3 months out. But that is of little consequence right now.

Just hang in there it will get easier. I know it's hard. Make sure you have your fluids in above all else, that is literally the most important thing. Most of us have enough fat on us to keep us alive a good long while, but not enough water can be fatal quite quickly. Not trying to be morbid, but I watched my friend have to visit the ER many times to get an IV because she wasn't drinking enough. Water Water Water.

Tried gas x, (125mg), but it seems like it makes it worse. Will have to try beano. My primary care dr gave me over the counter drops (20mg) for infants. I'm suppose to take 4 full drops after. Haven't tried them due to the issue with gas x.

Thanks. I'm not getting much Liquid Protein since my taste buds has had it with sugar-free tasting options. Tried doing different smoothies and so tired of peach mango. I'm also having problems getting anything with substance down, including the Protein Shakes. However, I can nibble on Protein Bars.

Can't wait till it gets better.....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
