What is the thought behind crushing medications up during the post op? The pills are small and easily could be swallowed. Does it have to do with absorption? Tolerance?

I am seven days post op, and my surgeon told me I did NOT have to crush my pills (wasted money on a crusher too)... was told to try taking them, one at a time with a sip of water.... did so day after surgery no pain, no reaction... so was givent he all clear to swallow meds whole.

Same as rickyswife. I wasted my money on a crusher also. I even swallowed metforin and just cut it in half and it is a large pill.

This is good to hear. I am completely adverse to liquid meds and am struggling right now w the Calcium and other clotting med. I can't imagine more meds crushed and mixed!

Funny... I was told to crush them as mine would wash into my small intestines instead of acting in my stomach for 1st stage of absorption. Additionally, My Dr. said that the pill could take up extra space. Now, my pills are pretty small so I doubted the space issue for me. For my Nexium I still open it up and take it as I did notice the limited acid reflux when I did it this way as opposed to not opening it.

Each Dr. is different, LOL

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
