Other health concern threatening my VSG

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks out from my surgery date... and have some upsetting news that may change my plans altogether... I have a suspicious "swelling/lump/node" under my right arm... came up on a recent MRI for increasing pain/numbness in my arm. I had a physical a month ago as I am preparing for the VSG... just wanted to make sure everything was okay before having a major surgery... and it may NOT be all okay... Will have another scan on May 22nd and possibly a biopsy... I am hoping and praying it's just a blocked node... but I'm still worried and freaked out... my husband had cancer in the same arm/same area 5 years ago and lightning has been know to strike my family with unusual regularity... please pray that all will be well and that I can pursue my plans for VSG... I finally made this decision to do something for me and I am so sad that maybe it won't happen.

As it pertains to my pre-op eating, this has been a huge incentive for me to get my act together... MORE Water to flush the lymph system, MORE raw vegetables and fruit, especially dark greens with lots of chlorophyll (also good for lymphatic system), and get MOVING - bought a rebounder trampoline today - my goal is 10 minutes a day - also good for lymphatic drainage! I was starting to make small changes pre-op anyway, but now I'm determined to help myself deal with whatever this "thing" is... let thy food be thy medicine!

I hope everything turns out to be negative after your test on the 22nd. Glad you're having it checked out.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things in the meantime with diet and exercise.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
