Now that I have my surgery date I am really trying to plan. So here are my questions for you all.

Please keep in mind that I DON'T eat meat.

What are some good mushy foods that are high in Protein. (Other then eggs) Or during this phase should I just plan on my only source of Protein being eggs and shakes?

Solids: Same question with a slight variation. No meat, high protein, low carbs, low fat and cal. :)

If I don't have the details planned out at first I will eat anything. Once I understand what I can and can't eat from experience, it will all become much easier.

Thanks for any help and ideas you can give me!

Soybeans (edamame) are high Protein, as well as lentils and some kinds of Beans. I know there are carbs in the mix, but it's not the refined carbs of bread, Pasta, etc. Both soybeans and lentils are best when they're not quite mushy, but they can also be cooked a little longer to a point where they can be mashed up. Also, you could always put unflavored Protein Powder in a veg puree, like from roasted carrots or cauliflower or sweet potatoes. You can also get high protein cottage cheese. Personally, I can't stand the texture of cottage cheese, so I run it through the blender or food processor to make it smooth & add other stuff to it. I'm still pre-op, too, but these are all ideas I've been experimenting with.

If you are not apposed to cheese I find that to be something that I enjoy and gives decent Protein. Cottage, ricotta, cheddar (just chew it til it's like paste) they all come in low / no fat versions too.

Cottage cheese (fat free) is a good high Protein low carb non=meat. Also, you can always blend fruit smoothies and green smoothies with added protein powder. There is whey protein powder. If you don't like or eat whey, there is also a soy protein powder. Fat free refried Beans are also another protein option. Do you eat fish? Seafood is an excellent choice for high protein, and low cal low carb meals. Hope this helps! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
