I have a question...do the surgeons ask you how much stomach you want taken out? Mine hasn't yet and my surgery is 6/25 so I'm curious. Do we have a choice? Is each surgeon different? I see so much variation on the internet I'm just wondering how much is actually taken out. I will, of course, asks surgeon at my pre op appt but thought I'd see what you guys know from your own experiences...

It's not something that the patient customizes.,

That being said the "goal" for the surgeon is to take out all of the fundus (the stretchy part of the stomach) because it is believed that if you leave any of it behind, the stomach over time can "stretch" again.

I guess I see so much variation (between 60-85%) that I just wonder how its decides how much is being taken out?

When I see that variation, it makes me wonder too.. The best I can tell you, is a scary as it sounds it not an "exact" science.

All surgeons will have different things they say and do. If I where to talk to my surgeon again, I would ask about the fundus and make sure that all of that was being taken out! If that 65% or 85% I don't know but it probably differs from patient to patient.

Did your surgeon ever tell you how much of your stomach he took out?

It's not about a percentage to take out. As Laura said, they have a goal to remove the fundus. Our anatomy is not exactly the same from person to person, so someone could have a particularly stretched out stomach pre-sleeve and require 85% taken out, where someone else will have a smaller stomach and it equates to only 60% being taken out.

The percentage isn't what important. They use a bougie so they get a uniform sleeve size post-op -- however much of your stomach has to be taken out to get to that sleeve size is irrelevant.

Ok I'll have to see what he says when I see him. Thanks ladies :)

Some people also have longer or shorter stomachs so the sleeve may be longer or shorter in the end. There is scientifically no difference of results over a wide variety of sleeve volumes, everything from 4 ounces to 10.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
