Sooooo slow ~ What's wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

Such a slow process for me. Surgery was Jan. 15th so it been almost 4 months and I am only down 35 pounds. Is this the norm? I feel much better but had no idea it would be such a slow process. I have another 35 pounds to go and am wondering if I will ever reach my goal. Seems like most people lose so much faster than this : (

I know the feeling, I'm only down 21lbs in 9wks. But, I was in a 4wk long stall. Thank God Ive lost 4lbs this week after much experimentation trying to get it started. I think some of us are just destined to lose slow. After my stall, Im just happy to lose again!! We just have to have faith that we WILL lose, and that it will be a forever loss!! Best of luck :) and keep the faith...35lbs is Great!!!

I will e 6 months out on Sunday and I have only lost 41 lbs total so far. I thought I broke my stall 2 weeks ago, but all I did was lose 5 lbs and gain it right back, probably because of medication I have been on. It's the most frustrating thing in the world. I feel like I'm the one person out there this surgery is not working for.

I'm guessing because your BMI was low to begin with it's going to come off slower..I'm in the same boat, it sucks but atleast it's coming off right? Hang in there, eventually we will meet our goal..

How many calories do you eat a day? I read that until you get to goal calories should be 600-800 a day. Protein 70 , 64 ounces Water. You did start at a low BMI, the closer to your ideal weight the harder it gets to lose. Exercise will make you loose faster. Hang in there it will come off eventually.

What did you lose prior to surgery? Most of us count our preop dieting weight loss into our total. I had surgery in january, and technically since surgery day I have lost 37 pounds but the weeks prior to surgery I lost quite a bit, bring my total to 56 pounds which is the number I ALWAYS USE. If you didn't bother with a preop diet or were not instructed to go on one, you seem to be right on track as far as I can tell.

Wow, you have lost that much weight in 4 months?/?? That's fantastic....That actually sounds quite normal. When we step back and look at the big picture, the quick losers and the slow losers end up in the same place just at certain times. Also the slow users have time for their skin to shrink and not look so baggy...... Sit back if you can and enjoy the loses......:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
