I want to tell everyone that I was approval for surgery...... The wrong one I wanted the sleeve but my Dr. Submitted the gastric bypass to the insurance . What should I do? Im so pissed right now I don't know if the insurance will approve the sleeve now it took three weeks to hear from them . Does anyone know the pros and cons of the gastric bypass and the sleeve ?

Well I would say if you want the sleeve, don't let a paperwork error change your mind. I would Start making phone calls and get it straightened out. What a mess, I feel for you.

I would call your doc and tell him that you do NOT want the bypass, that you want the sleeve. It's worth the wait to get the approval for the sleeve.

As for the differences, here is a link to a quick comparison of the 2 procedures:

Always go with your gut feeling.. You wanted the sleeve then come hell or high Water you get your doc to correct it. Chances are since it's his mistake he can rush it.

I bet it was just the error of his office staff. Don't make them decide for you what type of surgery to get. Being that the sleeve is supposedly less invasive, they'll probably approve the sleeve & quickly too. They've already gone thru your records. Good luck to you!

I wanted the sleeve, then my doc sort of talked me into RNY (said I could do either, but I would lose more weight with RNY) but I just couldn't get comfortable with it. The week before surgery I changed from RNY to sleeve, and I'm so happy I did that.

It might not be too hard to change. Even if it takes longer to straighten it out, there is no way I'd have an ELECTIVE surgery I didn't want. It's permanent. Just a bump in the road. Good luck

Go with what you originally wanted. Call your insurance company yourself and tell them your situation speak to a "higher up" to save time and explaining the situation more than you need to.

I would talk with the doctors, even if it delays the surgery........personally I wouldn't want the bypass...the mal-absorption thing freaks me out.......a friend had an RNY and now has to get Iron through an IV drip she was is so anemic...........

My insurance approved the RNY...not the sleeve. It only took an additional 2 weeks to get the approval for the sleeve. Glad I waited for the surgery I wanted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
