Your tummy is still enflamed. Yes of course you will eventually be able to eat more. I think I am up to about 5 bites, lol. Actually it depends too on how dense the food is. If I'm eating chicken breast or steak, I'm seriously at the 5 bite mark or there abouts, but if I have some starches or veggies, or like meat loaf, foods that aren't as dense, I am able to eat a lot more. You will find people talk about 'slider foods' also, those are foods that amount to so little in your tummy that they 'slide' right through. popcorn and chips would be some examples, but everyone is different. I still drink one shake a day because I feel like I don't always get enough nutrients through regular food, and I'm already a little past 6 months. Don't worry, it gets a lot better :)

This is totally normal when you start solid foods. Your stomach is still swollen and angry, so take it slowly. Make sure you chew your food really really well, and wait a few minuets between bites. In the beginning you will only be able to eat 2 or 3 bites, sometimes 1 bite of food is all you can handle, but rest assured that as time go on and your tummy heals and the swelling goes down you will be able to eat more. I can eat about 1/3 of a cup of food right now and i'm 2 months out. It's very frustrating in the beginning but hang in there, it does get better!!

I don't know why, but reading "your stomach is still swollen and angry" made me laugh! I tried a Protein shake for the first time last night (about a day and a half before I'm supposed to... SHAME ON ME, right?) and my tummy was doing whale songs for about an hour afterward. It was interesting!! I wonder if my tummy was angry at me for the shake or thanking me for it?

Isn't not being able to eat a lot .. A good thing? I mean isn't that why we had the surgery? I don't want to ever eat much.

One day, I will eat more because that's the norm of the sleeve.. But by then I will have programmed myself for a better lifestyle.

Right now, you're too early to expect to eat much. you need to concentrate on getting Protein and fluids and not whether you'll ever eat a lot. You will. It will all work out in time. :D be patient

I'm 9 weeks out. I can eat 2-3 ounces pretty easily. I ate a whole egg this week-very slowly. As 921Amy stated-it depends on how dense the food is. When I was given the OK to eat "real food" I couldn't get more than 2 bites down. I still have problems with steak or hamburger. And I am scared to try a lot of things. BUT it does get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
