They didn't tell me the size of the bougie. It was about 30 minutes before finishing the banana. Yogurt was about 4 oz.

Are you sure you are supposed to be eating bananas? Seems kind of early for any fruit. But you do not feel real restriction until you eat solid Protein. Then you will feel full and won't want as much to eat.

yogurt and banana are very much slider foods. If you are worried about your quantity, and are far enough out, switch up your breakfast with some more solid Proteins. Also, are you breaking out the shake because you are really hungry, or are you having head hunger? I think the way to react to what you are feeling really depends on how far out you are. maybe try adding some peanuts or PB2 to thicken up the banana/yogurt, and boost the Protein. I always have a shake first thing in the morning because it fills me up so much still. We are all different, good luck.

at 8 days out most are still on a full liquid diet, the yogurt is fine, but i'd try the shake for breakfast, the higher Protein content should help you feeling fuller longer. It is hard in the early days after surgery, as you don't feel hungry ( except in your head) and it's hard to know what full is. My NUT told me that i should be eating about every 2 to 3 hours. Remember, when in doubt about anything, call your doc!

I agree.. The first stages are pretty much slider foods to get us to the solid stage and that's when your restriction will be felt

Week 1 post op is Clear Liquids, week 2,3 full liquids, week 4 soft foods. I agree with others its too early to eat fruit. When you start to eat more dense foods you will feel the restriction.

Carbs make me hungry. The breakfast you described was a carb load. Nothing wrong with eating these things if they are your doctor's list of approved foods but I find I get better restriction from foods like cottage cheese. It is lower in carbs, higher in protien and I can only eat two- three ounces. When I wanted sweet, I made protien pudding (I've posted it in the past so you can do a search) it's basically SF cool whip, cottage cheese and SF pudding mix all whizzed together. You will find each food hit you differenly. For example I have been able to eat an entire Dannon Greek yogurt (5.3oz) from very early out. Don't fret, you'll do great.

Thank you all so much! I have to get over the thought that I'm a better judge than the dr's on what I should/can be eating. I'm calling a do-over.....starting right now!!

Also, your stomach is still numb. I had the same problem. Didn't really feel "full" until about 2 weeks. I'm three weeks now and 4oz of anything is my limit or I get nauseous.

I'm still in the clear liquid stage and trying to deal with air bubbles, I can't imagine eating a banana in a few days, yikes. Hope everything goes well with this learning curve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
