Odd question about removing the drainage tube

Recommended Posts

So, because I'm kind of squeemish about these kinds of things, I am curious as to what it will feel like to have the drainage tube removed. Does it hurt? Burn? Painful? Or am I making a big deal out of it and does it tickle or just feel weird? The thought of pulling the tube out makes me squirm

I was really worried about this back when I had my drainage tube out for a hematoma. It felt really weird and a pressure kind of feeling, no real pain exactly just a little uncomfortable. Hope this helps but it really was a one time ever feeling that is hard to describe.

No pain just felt really gross like a suction lol I don't know how to describe it but absolutely no pain and it only take 2 seconds

When they pull out the tube, it's pretty quick. Not really painful, just pressure as described above. Then it's over. Good luck!

Not sure if ever drain is the same or different, but for me it felt really 'tingly' the best way to describe it was that I felt like I was on a roller coaster, how all of your insides kind of tickle and tingle. for me when it was removed I felt a release of pressure that I didn't know was there. I had had a sore abdominal area, trouble bending over etc, but once the drain was removed, it felt a million times better. I also was psyching myself out about it hurting, and was pleasantly surprised and felt a little foolish I had been so scared once it was out. No pain. Good luck!

Don't worry - it doesn't hurt. It feels kinda strange because we don't normally have things pulled out of our body every day but not painful. It only takes a couple of seconds to remove it and it feels so good to have it gone!

It doesn't hurt, but it was a very weird feeling. They pull it out quickly, so it doesn't last. It was as if as soon as they started pulling on it, I could feel every inch of it all through my belly. It was closest to a rollercoaster stomach-queasy feeling.

I had my drain removed last week. My body tends to heal quickly and had started healing around the drain. The opposite end is flat and rectangular, when it was pulled, it felt like my intestines were being pulled out! No pain, just....different. The NP said others described it as a big pinch on the inside.

So let me get this straight. We have to have a drainage tube put in during the surgery? How long do we have to wear it? No one has said a word about this. I had a tube in my gallbladder for a month in 2010 and hated it. Why do they not tell you this?

I didn't have to have one during my sleeve surgery...only cuz I developed a hematoma later...not everyone has to have one. Ask your dr!

Not every doctor puts in a drain. I never had one and none of the other patients that I know from the same program with different docs had one.

I never had a drainage tube, if I did, they removed it while I was still out. Are you sure you're going to have one?

I had mine for less thn 24 hrs. And it should not be painful on removal. If it is then, well, the remover sucks! I have to laugh though because the feeling is just a weird that's that hard to explain. AND VERY QUICK!

Piece of cake :)

I was told I have to keep it in for about 4-5 days and then I come back in for them to remove it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
