I have my egd next Thursday and I'm pretty nervous. Can anyone tell me about their experience? I'm told I will be put to sleep which really scares me, I guess I just don't like not being in control. I'm going to try my best to stay calm and get through it. I really want this surgery so I need to get over my fears somehow.

Piece of... well... cake.

They will prep you (get into a gown, place an IV for fluids...

You'll chat with the gas-passer...

They will roll you into the OR...

They'll ask if you are ready, and you'll open your eyes and say "when do we get going", and they'll say "we are all done".

Great practice for the surgery

It's nothing to panic over! I had mine Tuesday and wish I had done it years ago! My husband said I was only out of my room 30 minutes tops! They put me to sleep and next thing I knew the nurse was talking to me back in my room! No pain...no soreness...no headache...NOTHING! From the time they took me back to do the actual test I was walking out of the building in an hour and a half! Piece of cake! No pun intended LOL!

Let me know how it goes for you! You will be glad you did it. I was shocked when my husband told me that I have a hiatal hernia! They didn't go in to find that but I'm glad they did find something. It certainly explains why I have acid reflux so bad! Can't wait to he able to eat food that doesn't talk back to me LOL!

I'll post about how it goes. Sorry to hear about your hernia. Hopefully now they can fix it for you and no more pain.

Funny thing is I've been battling the acid reflux for years and my regular Dr just told me to take acid reducers...which did not fix the problem! I can't wait to tell her how I fixed the problem lol!

They will repair the hernia during surgery. It's the only way to fix it. I don't have pain so I didn't know I had a hernia. I have major issues with acid reflux. After it's repaired there shouldn't be any more acid issues. All my other Dr wanted to do is have me take acid reducers. I have my stomach coming up in my chest cavity! No wonder pills aren't helping!

No date yet. Dr wants to get all the test results together before we set a date. Should be able to next week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
