Good luck Rachel....I love my band, I would do this all over again in a heartbeat.

I am in Canada and did not require a referrel. I simply contacted the clinic that performs the procedure and had a face to face consult with their pre/op coordinator, then one of the surgeons called me and we had a 15 minute telephone consultation and that was it.

Hope its as easy for you.

Carol

Welcome to the site glad to have you! Good luck to ya. It seems to be a long process but It's not too bad. I just got done with my final visit now I am waiting to meet with the doctor that will be doing the surgery. If you have a BMI of 40 or greater they will ok the surgery. then it's up to the insurance company, if your not self pay. Best of luck in your WL journey. Please feel free to email with any questions and I would be happy to help in any way that I can. Happy Holidays!

I am really getting alot of info on this site.

I am going to the Dr. Thursday also (good luck Racheal). I already got approved last year went through pre-op, had my surgury date then I chickened out. I am so mad @ myself for not going through with it. So now I am required to do the 6 mo. diet do to insurance changes. It sucks...I just want to get started.

I am starting my diet before Christmas just to see if I can be around food and to see how I can handle it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
