My doctor said no alcohol for a month and I know he's not a big fan of it ever because its empty calories. Since we aren't suppose to drink with or right after meals I was wondering how to add a glass of wine with dinner back. Any advice? Also, any other input on adding some cocktails back into your life?

At some point in the future, I'm going to try wine also when we go out to dinner. I guess that I'll have some wine first, then wait for 20 - 30 minutes and have some dinner. I'm sure there will be some good conversation in between. I hope that I don't get beat up too badly for posting this! :)

I think you have to be careful how much you consume because you are eating less and because the alcohol turns into sugar in your body. Definitely need to wait 20 - 30 minutes before or after eating. Enjoy. Remember, everything in moderation. Drink slower. I'm anxious to reintroduce alcohol. I tried a few sips of beer after my surgery and it went well. Haven't tried wine or any hard liquor yet.

My doctor actually recommends not drinking for a year after being sleeved. He says that your body absorbs the alcohol a lot faster and it takes very little to get you very drunk--making alcohol poisoning a definite possibility. He pleads with his patients that if they do decide to drink alcohol, to do it in extreme moderation, and DEFINITELY NO DRIVING!

Personally I have drank 3 times since surgery, I'm almost 4 months out, and it went quite well. The first time I drank too much and it stalled me for 2 weeks, I didn't know it could do that. Also, I didn't get but a little buzz which i thought was weird. The 2nd time I had a wine cooler and got buzzed and the 3rd I had a mikes hard lemonade and also got buzzed. I'm sure ill hear it for drinking a carbonated adult beverage but oh well, my dr is ok with it so long as its only one. I'm wondering if the carbonation had anything to do with the effects.

I would say as long as your dr is ok with it you should be fine. Just make sure you wait to drink it the 30 mins before or after. If you go out with friends that should be easy as most ppl like to hang out for a bit and catch up.

Oh also, I agree with the empty calories thing too so I only have one if I do drink and no more than once a month. I would rather eat my calories than drink them. And like everything I eat or drink, it goes in my fitness pal.

I have never drank carbonation, but I have had a glass of wine, 3 times since surgery. Made me tipsy quickly. But thats fine one glass takes about an hour to drink, and never have I drank it with food. Im 2.5 months out. And for those of you who are saying we shouldnt drink alcohol becuase of the empty calories, I know I know, but give me a break...I have 3 teenagers, and 1 of them is a GIRL teenager...LOL so only 3 glasses of wine in 2.5 months is pretty good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
