I KNOW I NEED TO CLEAN OUT MY CLOSET BUT

Recommended Posts

I'm having a hard time getting rid of my semi-big clothes. I have surpassed the smallest clothes in my closet by a couple of sizes, at least, but it feels scary to get rid of them. From my years of yo-yo dieting, I have always had a cushion to lean on with the different sizes. I don't plan on ever going back there, but it feels too new to trust myself yet. Any advice? What do I keep? Was a 24 and now a 14.

I don't have any advice for you since I"m pre-op, but I totally know the feeling. I have a range of clothes from size 11 to size 22. In the past I kept them because I knew I'd eventually need the big clothes again, but after surgery...they're gone, gone, gone. I'm so looking forward to it.

Save one piece of your largest and get rid of the rest! You are never going back so go forward and treat yourself to some new things!

Great work!

Just do it. Make the plunge. Have a good friend come over and do it for you. Keep ONE THING to remind yourself where you came from and donate the rest. You can do it!! Do not keep them and essentially give yourself permission to grow back into them. Congratulations on your success!!

I just took about 6 bags of clothes to a local charity called Dress for Success that provides suits and business clothing to unemployed low income women who are trying to get into the workforce. I had the same feeling - afraid I might need them again. My husband told me I can shop for new clothes but I need to get rid of stuff that doesn't fit any longer. This was a good chance to do it. If you have business or work clothing, please consider Dress for Success. They have a real need for larger size cothes.

GIRL! Get rid of those things! You won't need them again, EVER! Do keep something from your largest sizes to be able to see where you have come from when you reach your goal. I have started a stack of clothes to take to a local resale store. She will give me store credit for what I bring in and I can get some "new" things there until I reach my goal. (I could also get cash but she will give me more in store credit and I have found some really cute stuff there before) I don't want to have to spend the money to buy new things that I may only wear for a month or two so I'm going this route. We take things to Goodwill all the time and once I'm at goal I will again, but for now I am going to let my old clothes benefit me in getting some new smaller ones.

Save one and toss the rest... OR use for painting clothes, or gardening clothes (but they might fall off)

Don't hold onto it! You're DONE with that size, with that life! Let those clothes go on to help others who can't afford brand new stuff, and focus on who you are now.

And I agree with keeping one outfit in the larger size. It will help you see how far you've come when you're having a bad day.

Congrats on the weight loss! :) You've EARNED a new wardrobe!

I feel the same way! I've always kept all the different sizes and I'm cringing (but happy) about getting rid of them. I'm 5 weeks post op and I'm losing so slow that it makes me nervous to get rid of them so soon too...We should all have a "get rid of our big clothes" party weekend as Nicola said!

I'm on board with that! I have hit such a road block with that! I have such a hideous pile of way to big "fat Laura" clothes in the upstairs landing, that it has become like a permanent fixture :(

SOMEONE MAKE ME THROW THEM AWAY!

Fairly sure "dress for success" won't want my fat jeans and super sized hoodies. ;)

I will donate to the thrift store though

I save mine. I have the space in my attic. I save the clothes I love and give away the ones I wouldn't wear again no matter my size. I keep them bc I never know where life will take me.

I have had many affairs with weight loss only to gain it back, so for me saving the clothes takes some of the pressure off. But I don't clutter my closet of cute smaller clothes with them.

This line of thinking is too dangerous for me. They have to go and be gone forever; I can't think I might end up in them again. That gives me permission to do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
