Recommended Posts

Hi and thanks for the welcome!

I was banded 16th October feels like ages ago now ( or is that just the puree's speaking......) I am feeling so much better as each day goes by, the only thing I am struggling with at the moment is wearing an underwired bra when my port site swells.Dont suppose you have any helpful hints that dont include granny bras??

Look at you!! 30lbs already!! You must be looking gooood hon ;)

Just an update, went to the doctor today. She referred me for a barium swallow and to a gastro intestinal doctor. Until they call, I'm trying to get as much Water down as possible. Thanks for the advice!!

Lucy, I could be making a terrible assumption here, but it doesn't sound like you went to a doctor that has experience with the band. If not, I really think that's who you should be consulting with.

I apologize if I'm wrong!

No, you're not wrong, you're absolutely right. I was banded in Mexico, so this is the first time I've had to go to my American doctor. She knows everything, and took my band into consideration when giving my referrals. When I see the gastro (can't spell the rest) I'll definetely ask for floroescpy (I know I mangled that word). I was actually able to eat tonight and it stayed down, so I'm thinking maybe my issue was around an IVF medication intolerance? Anyway, I'll definetely follow up with my referrals on Monday and see what happens. Thanks for all the great advice and for caring!!!

If you were able to eat, it sounds like the swelling has gone down. When were you banded?

Hey there! My BMI is 34.1, I currently weigh 205 and am 5'5. Do you have any regrets getting the band?

I was banded on 8/29 and have absolutely NO REGRETS! I have lost about 24 pounds so far, but most of that was in the first 6 weeks. I've had a 1cc fill but am HUNGRY. Wish I were losing as quickly as I was early on, but I think with my next fill I will have more restriction and then I'll be on the downward slide again.

Oh, I LOVE this thread. This is just the place for me. Thanks for starting it. These are exactly my concerns - losing weight when there's not as much to lose.

I am being banded on Friday! I have a BMI of 37 and want to lose about 70 pounds or so, to get around 150 pounds.

So 1 week into the pre-op diet and I've lost 9 pounds!! I was eating too much and not losing and my husband said calories are calories, so I started just drinking 3 Protein Shakes, that's it, no popsicles or Soup or anything else in between like I was allowed, then the weight started to drop again.

Obviously, I haven't been banded yet but I think what it's going to take from me is to be very rigorous in the not snacking department, exercising practically every day, and eating low carb. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and a low-carb diet is suggested for that and it has worked well for me in the past - better than other diets. So I'm intending to stick to a fairly low-carb diet after surgery.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Linda

Glad to hear you are doing well before even being banded Lind! I agree exercise always curved my appetite and no/low carbs helps too but at this point I don't know how I could stick to the pre op diet. My appetite is so out of control...seems lately I'm only hungry when I start eating and then I just CAN"T stop. I know it's my hormones again. They got me obese with both preganancies nowit's menopause. Did it get easier after the first few days? I know if I continue to eat like this I will cause my body damange. I am in my 5th month of doc supervised diet for insur. coverage. It's a long shot but I'm praying@! Keep us posted. When is your surgery date?

HELLO all..... I am posting here for my sister......

She wants the band after seeing all my success... I think she is crazy because she only weighs 156 lbs and is 5'4", but this is high for her and she has gained 20 lbs in the last year and continues to do so........ and she is used to being the skinny one.. LOL ANYWAY... was anyone here banded with a BMI of 27? and where? and how much (since I'm assuming it was all self pay)

Thanks in advance

Hello Everyone.

6'3 Male, 270-280 weight.

I was happy to find a thread that had low BMI lap band people that I can relate to. I never thought that I would not be fat enough to qualify for surgery but that was almost the case. I have a BMI of right at 34.5 but since I have high BP and other ailments I was approved. I am self pay so that is also going to be a challenge if I have complications. My main concern right now is that I don't see people that have my body type getting the surgery. People that weigh 400 pounds are happy getting to the weight that I am at now. I am not trying to be mean so please don't take it that way. I have 70 pounds to lose and the last time I got really motivated I got down to 250 only to jump back up to 284. So this is a tool that I will be using to level the playing field. Does anyone have before and after pics of someone that has taken their fitness to the next level and got their BMI to average level. I wonder if I can lose my 70 pounds and build muscle. BabygotBack is looking pretty good so that is encouraging. Thanks for your time.

Hey Jules,

I am a 6'3 guy about to get the lap band done this month and wanted to say Hi. You are the first posting I have seen where you mentioned your height so I am sure that you got alot of "you carry the weight well" type responses. How was the experience and being tall, any unusual?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
