Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Well, it was a learning experience......I was thinking of something else totally and I gobbled 5 or 6 hunks of dry chicken breast. Ohmygosh! I had thw worst pain!

Oh, and I had my first fill on Feb.19th. I found that it didn't really kick in till the end of the second week. I won't be eating so mindlessly anymore and I definitely will avoid fried chicken breast.

Susan I am really sorry to hear about that. I am so afraid of that. I have had chicken get stuck but I have never thrown it up. I always have some sort of sauce on it so I think that helps. It is really painful when it gets stuck! I hate it:angry

I felt really full today, which is a new thing for me. But I have caught another cold and I am really mad about that. I have no energy to exercise. I had a bad cold a little over a month ago and went on antibiotics. I hope I get over this one fast.

Well, it was a learning experience......I was thinking of something else totally and I gobbled 5 or 6 hunks of dry chicken breast. Ohmygosh! I had thw worst pain! Then that clear mucus stuff started coming up and I could only spit it out. If I tried to swallow the pain skyrocketed. After about 30 minutes I started to vomit. This helped only a little but I continued to vomit for about 2 hours. I had to leave work and drive home, vomiting into a cup as I drove. Whew! I finally went to sleep and when I woke up I was fine. Amazing! I stayed on liquids for 24 hours and ate aparingly at lunch today. All is well. But what a horrible experience. I don't ever want to pb again. Thanks for listening.

How much did they put in your band?

I have not pb'd. It sounds awful!!!

I feel like my fill has kicked in more too. But I can eat most anything without probs.

Been there, done that! Isn't it an ugly feeling? It's even worse when there are people around! I've only had it happen a few times, I've learned to I avoid a few things too.:nervous

The second worse thing is when you go to sleep at night with food in your "pouch" and the acid tries to break it down, you end up waking up choking on this burning acid in your nose and throat. This happened to me recently for the first time.I then had a burning sensation in my throat/nose that lasted for days.Pretty scary stuff.I've been banded a year and I'm still learning new things.

Hey Lisa! So, do you think we should not eat before we go to sleep? How long before? Sounds scarey!!!:faint:

Hey All Im still looking at all you all stats. Im waiting on settlement, and try to decide on doctor? is there any good in the 7000,00 range? has anyone heard of Hosae Rodrigus? Im thinking autro Rodriguse or Ortiz.

Bikergirl 360 How much was your surgery and is he good? If you dont mind me asking? It seems like forever for my money to get here, Im ready now summer is coming quick and Im still fat. Pray pray pray ! The hardest part for me is deciding on a doctor.

Audrey Im still watching you lose that weight, you are doing great. Keep up the good work.Cant weight till your next weigh in. I dont even wanna get on the scales at this time. Do you feel like you have more energy the more weight you lose or can you tell a diffrenece yet. I know they say you will, boy that is what I deffinitly need to.

Thanks!!! I am premenstrual and almost don't want to weigh in on Friday, but I will. I have had more energy to do my stuff, but still don't feel motivated to exercise! I need to!

My fill finally kicked in so I am eating less and feeling full.

Dr. Ortiz is awesome! He charges $8500. I paid $500 with a credit card and the rest cash.

My insurance company paid for my surgery. I wasn't a selfpay. Per the selfpayers Dr. Ortiz is highly recommended. Babygotback used him. I looked at some of the scars on the scar stages pages and I have only 5 incisions and a lot of people have a lot more. They said my surgery was about 20 minutes. So I would say he is good. I was around and about the next day. Not a lot of gas. But I think you would come on cheaper out of the states, if you can do it.

BGB glad to see you on the board - haven't talked to you since I got banded - I know you had a lot going on. Glad to see your restriction kicked in - I have a follow appt today, I start my "Thicker" liquids today. Although I did cheat last night - My kids made pizzas with crescent rolls, and I actually had some - had no problems eating it either. I don't know if that is good or bad.

I am a NAUGHTY NAUGHTY girl. I had my follow up appointment today and I had advanced to thicker liquids too early. I thought it was one week liquids, one week thicker liquids like creamy type Soups (low fat) and then on to muchies. Its not, it was suppossed to be two weeks Clear Liquids, two weeks muchies/thicker liquids then solid food. Im worried I have done some damage. I also ate some fish cakes the other night when out with friends at a place with no Soup, and a bit of bread the other day at lunch dipped in my soup, i felt fine but now worried.

Ive also plateaued on the weight loss ... :angry  :angry  (angry at myself)

I wouldn't think the thicker liquids would be a problem. My Dr recommends to start thicker liquids 2-3 days post op - such as Protein Drinks, liquid yogurts, cream soups - mainly to get adequate Protein in. He has me doing 1 week full liquids, then 2-4 weeks mushies, then 2-4 weeks soft. I would think that if you felt fine, (ie. didn't have any pain or throwing up) that you are OK. Be patient with yourself and your weight loss....

audree, I got 1.7 cc when I went on the 19th. I don't know how they decide the amount since my travel buddy, Cara, got 1.3 cc right after me. I forgot the OCC fill doctor's name but he seems to know what he's doing. I hope I won't need a fill for awhile but he did say that it depends to an extent on how fast you lose the weight. Anyway, I'm slowly losing, about one or two a week if I'm very very good.:-)

Well went to Dr. appt - just a follow up to see how I was feeling - answer any questions - advised me to start counting my calories - So I am going to now make me out a schedule and menu - I want to be prepared daily to have what I need so I don't have to look for it.

I go back in 3 weeks for my first fill. 3 weeks from today would be 3/29.

Bikergirl,

I count my calories on sparkpeople.com and I like it pretty well. It is pretty easy to use and there are a lot of things on there that are already listed. Some people also use fitday, but I have never been to that site so I have no opinion.

I use spark people too. I need to get a food scale though because I have no idea if my portion is the same as what they have listed.

iwill look in to it - I've started reading labels on boxes and buying the Reduced Fat products not just for me but also for the family. I may be the only one with the tool but the whole family will start eating healthy because I have to. I stopped buying the regular noodles and buy the wheat noodles - THEY COULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
