Lower BMI Bandsters!

Do you think that we are just used to eating so much that is what is getting us. I think it is our love for food. For me I am emotionaly detacting myself from food and finding other things to do to pass the time. It is hard at the office all day but We can do it.

Manage stress in a healthy way. don't eat it.

Avoid using food as a reward or to manage emotions.

I am so excited this is our second chance to learn to use food as fuel not comfort.

Great talking to you all and sorry if I sound so positive. I am just excited.

Total all day I would drink 64 oz of liq.

At my meal time. I would drink a 1/4 cup of Cup of Soup (creamy chicken) Yea, only 1/4 cup of thick soup. I am corn cowder and removed the corn and blended it. It felt heavy with like 5 bites I was full. Have a heavy blended soup.

Audree, you got in the whole 15 ounces of Soup because it goes right through the band to the larger part of your stomach. Until you eat solid foods, it will just go on through.

You are doing great!!!!!

That is because it is a liquid. You should be drinking at least 64 onces of anything a day. I think everyone is different and I'm sure the swelling is different for everyone. I just felt full all the time. Pea Soup is just liquid so it is going right threw. Everyone is different and I am sure once we have our fills things will change. My problem was I stayed so full. My doctor required 3- 8 once Protein Shakes a day. I could barly get those down. You are doing great and should get as much liquids in you as you can.

Best of Wishes,

Madden

I got kinda scared. I also figured out that I am super restricted in the morning and in the evening. I can't even have more than 1 cup even if it's liquid in the morning and evening. During the day I have a little more wiggle room.

Thanks for reasuring me!

No Problem, Right now we should just worry about healing and getting as much Protein as we can. At night sometimes I am still having little panick attacks that I have a deep, deep chest cold. I hate that feeling. I hope this goes away soon but I don't know.

Does everyone know that you had this sugery? I have told only 3 people. Before I know it they will all be goss-uping about me.

I have not told anyone. My husband, my mom and the friend who had hers a year ago. My aunt figured it out but I told her not to talk about it or I will deny it, at least for now!!!

My kids don't know!!

Goodnight Audree!

You know, when I was eating like 700 calories a day while on liquids, I just gave up and went to bed early every night. I honestly think the rest got me through it. I did not have the energy during those weeks. I would work, come home and play with my son, talk with my husband and go to bed at around 8pm. My energy came back when I was able to get in more calories.

Day 2 of food after fill #1 was better. You know what, I had coffee this morning (with skim milk) and I completely forgot about eating until 12:30pm. No hunger pains, nothing........I only finally went to lunch because I realized that is what everyone else around me was doing and it was lunchtime. I think I ate too much for lunch. I felt really uncomfortable afterward. I have to slow down -- it is hard for me at work b/c there is so much going on around me. Tonight, dinner was better. I ate the inside of a taco -- beef first, then a little cheese, then lettuce. Not bad. I am amazed how the feeling of being satisfied lasts for several hours. That never happened pre-band and is so nice. I used to think about food from the minute I woke up until I went to bed. Now, I only think about it when I am eating.

I did make it to the treadmill......a very very short walk......but I did get on there. Better than nothing.

I still feel I have a long way to go to learning what works with this band and what does not. I have to create new habits.....eating so fast at lunch just plain hurts -- but you don't realize you are eating too fast until you are in pain! I guess a few days of this should start to remedy this. Tonight I was able to slow down and get a hiccup (which I've read on this board is a sign for STOP EATING), which signaled me to stop. I felt more comfortable after dinner after getting that "signal".

Please keep teaching me what all of you banded with fills are eating during the day and evening. It gives me ideas. The other thing that I've noticed is that many of my old food choices (pastas, bread, rice, chicken) have not worked for me with the band thus far. I love hearing what others eat b/c it lets me think of foods that I am not normally eating.

Oh......and the scale moved a whopping 0.2 pounds. My goodness......I'm ready to scream after 5 days of being filled and drinking liquids and then struggling to eat, and not eating nearly what I was before my fill -- this scale has to move soon. I know I'm doing the right things......so it will come soon enough, I'm sure.

Goodnight!

Kathy

Baby Got Back,

Don't I wish I had a Trader Joe's here. I live in the middle of nowhere. I have to drive 100 miles to go to Trader Joe's .

I didn't think I could have any kind of Beans. I would suppose as long as I blended them until they turned into liquid, I could have them. I am supposed to be on liquids for 4 weeks and it will only be 2 weeks this friday. I really need to search around for more liquid recipes. I am getting discouraged too because I feel like I really should be losing again. I am at a standstill.

I have my post op appointment on Monday. I will be curious to hear what my dr. has to say about all of this. I appreciate you answering me! (ALOT!)

You are really sweet. ;)

I hate that feeling that I need to burp and I can't! I am wondering what is going on because in the evenings, I have that feeling all evening. I wonder if it has to do with the swelling going down or something. I am only a week and a half past surgery.

I really should start counting my calories.all of you seem to know your calorie intake. Maybe that's why I am not losing. I count my Protein grams, but not calories. I have no clue how many calories I am getting per day. I bought the Protein Drinks from the dr. and never even looked on the can to see the calories. I usually drink 2 cans of slim fast low carb per day too, and I know they are 190 calories.

I like it over here at the "lower BMI" EVeryone is so friendly and informative.;)

My thought is that whenever anyone is on a very low calorie diet, the body's metabolism begins to slow down in order to conserve as much as possible. I think that is one reason why it takes a little bit for the scales to start moving again when you get a fill. Because your body is hoping it isn't real.

Also it is a well-known fact that once you are overweight your metabolism is totally screwed up, which is why they are now diagnosing people with Metabolic Syndrome. My opinion is that this surgery helps people's metabolisms normalize and the body fights that as well.... but that is really just my opinion.

Either way I hope the weight loss starts soon for you Kathyinca...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
