Casein powder for better protein absorption?

Recommended Posts

Posted this last night...no responses, but I'm giving it another go becase im really interested in this product...

Has anybody used this to help slow down the absorption/breakdown of Protein? I've started an exercise regimen that includes 6 days of cardio (in the AM for maximum fat burning potential) and 4 days of strength training (in the evening for maximum muscle building potential). I'm still pre-op (5-6 weeks to go), but I've already began drinking shakes for Breakfast and lunch, a small sensible dinner with protein and greens, and Snacks between each meal consisting of 2% string cheese, nuts, and fruits (fruits only in AM to allow time to expend carbs)--caloric intake varies from 1200-1400 a day. However, I was thinking about adding a casein drink before bed time. I was looking at BioQuests Ultmate Casein (http://www.prosource.net/product_details.aspx?item_guid=CFE3CCC4-B3A8-4B24-919B-A559BE16F1D8). Anybody have any takes?

Well I want to know as well. I am Very Impressed with your regimine, and no matter what Protein you add, keep it up and you'll do well. My NUT suggested Unjury products (even over Optifast), so I stay there. Keep up the super plan!!!

looks good I guess, I use muscle milk light now, I give a plus for a powder that it let's me decide how much. I like banana too and this one has banana as well, hmmm, also, have another few brands I have yet to try for future but may add this to list and I don't expect that I will stop usage in coming years so I can get to it, lol. Also looked at lesser carb and egg Protein powders, unsure just whats what next time I buy one as I remain with my couple big containers a second time and used them for some time.

key for me is calories in scoops as well for now especially but that stuff seems sensable.

Thank you. I'm happy to report that I've already dropped 24 pounds. When I was in college I was a certified aerobic instructor and weight trainer. I was into the shakes, egg whites, tuna, and all that nutritional stuff then. Lost my way after 4 kids and a full time job. Anyway, when researching slow release Proteins, the casin products kept popping up. Must claim to slow digesting, enabling better absorption of protein. Of course, as most of us are aware, more protein = the potential for more muscle; and the more muscle we have, the more our body burns off that fat! I ordered one from prosource.net...I'll let you know how it goes.

I happen to be a fan of the Muscle Milk's chocolate RTD's. Thank you for the suggestions!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
