Slave to Senor Sleeve 40 Posted May 12, 2013 My UHC policy had easy requirements, I had them all and was approved in less than a week. Meeting with surgeon this week to schedule all preop and surgery. Read your policy and make sure you have everything they want and they should approve you. Good Luck! I just didn't know how long it took from submission to acceptance. I called them when I first decided that I was going to be sleeved an made sure I had everything they required
Slave to Senor Sleeve 40 Posted May 12, 2013 When I first started getting everything together and contacting the bariatric resources (optum health), I spoke to the bariatric resources nurse. She told me approvals take up to 15 work days (3 weeks). I decided to call them once a week mainly to make sure my surgeons office actually sent the paperwork correctly (they were initially given wrong information by UHC because they did not go through bariatric resources). I was approved very quickly. Don't be afraid to call them and find out where in process you are.

I'm constantly calling my surgeon to make sure my doctors have faxed their approvals. I will definitely be bugging my insurance company too lol

30pinkbutterflies 1 Posted May 12, 2013 I have UHC and I was approved in less than 24 hours! Sent from my iPhone using VST How much were you required to pay out of your pocket? Also, I am 5 ft and weigh 220, have high blood pressure and pre-diabetic. In your opinion, would my chances be good to be approved?
NMJG 1,266 Posted May 15, 2013 My UHC case manager said 3 weeks. $1500 out of pocket, the rest covered by insurance. Butterflies, if your bmi is over 35 and you have one or more co-morbidities like high blood pressure, your chances should be good. I don't think pre-diabetic counts, but I could be wrong.
