I was making treats for my pre-k students' graduation (making them instead of buying because that usually makes me happy....and I might be a masochist). When I finished I licked the spoon out of habit and thought omg sooo good then immediately thought "OMG what are you doing? You're on the liquids only diet" I hope it doesn't effect much but now I just keep staring down those treats. This sucks

My doctor didn't give me a liquid pre op diet, aka liver shrinkage diet, but i was wondering what it basically consists of. What are you guys allowed to drink? Thanks.

I'm allowed 3 shakes a day. Must equal at least 60grams of Protein (my dr's requirement for women) I can also have all the calorie free liquids I want, sugar free Jello, and broth. I started on may 9th and I've dropped 8.5lbs so far. The first 3 days SUCKED!!!!!!!! Now it's not that hard, I actually only get hungry after I drink a shake. It's like my tummy gave up on food and when I drink a shake I wake it up and make it want more.

I started mine on 14th-surgery on 28th. I'm allowed 2 shakes and a Protein and salad for dinner. I'm diabetic and immediately felt ill, glucose was low, shaking and headache. I had to add a little carbs in because I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise. 1 small slice of dry, whole grain bread made all the difference. Praying that it doesn't affect my surgery!!

No, Susan, I didn't. Family doctor is not on board with the surgery at all. Waiting list for Alberta health care procedure is 5+ years and I could be dead by then! Self pay so going to TJ. Downside is that advice and diet plans are done over phone or by email and seem to be one size fits all. I'm fairly lucky and know my diabetes really well, so can tell when glucose is low. Dreading clear, no cal liquids next week. Not sure how I'm going to function without carbs!!

I posted this a few weeks ago. It was well received and might give you a new way to look at the "pre-op diet".

Keep up the good works guys. You've got this!

My dr said a good surgeon can get around any liver...full of himself much? We don't have a preop diet, we just can't gain weight before surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
