Why did Gov Christie choose a lap-band ? http://www.today.com/health/chris-christies-weight-loss-procedure-doesnt-always-work-6C9823879 Mostly I think it was the "politically correct" choice. Remember "sleeves" are NOT widely available in the USA, and generally are NOT covered under insurance. Saying that, I am sure Gov Christie would NOT have any problem coming up with the cash to have a sleeve done in the USA. So WHY did Gov Christie pick the lap-band ? My guess will be he will have a lot of quick initial success, but the inherent problems of the "band" will eventually cause him to "stall" and re-gain the weight. Trying to "trick" the stomach just doesn't work.

Who knows why he picked that? We are not privy to his medical history nor should we be. I wish him well. I have enough faith in my MD and in my decisions not to feel I need to put a neg spin on someone else's decision when it differs from my own couse of action. Even if he is a blowhard politician.

I'm sure there where a lot of reason he chose that.. I think the recovery time is faster, and I was what made him comfortable. The abiltiy to remove it down the road also probably played a part as well..

It is each persons choice what they want.. I chose sleeve, my friend chose bypass, and my ex-boss did sleeve.. we all had our reasons for our choices, and he is allowed to have his.

I do think taking this step is a great thing for him. He is a really nice guy (met him a few times) and he's a great governor. On a more selfish note, I really don't want him to run for president until he is done with his 2nd term in jersey.

Many people experience success with the band. It was DEFINITELY not the option I wanted, but some people have a great experience with it. Maybe he knows someone who had a great experience and recommended it to him.

Speaking from personal experience, because I have had the band... You cannot judge peoples WLS of choice. I'm sure he had his reasons. I picked the lap band for several really good reasons. It didn't work out for me, and I don't really encourage people to get it, but I do understand the appeal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
