With or Without sleep apnea

Recommended Posts

I'm having some questions about submitting my insurance claim for surgery with or without the sleep apnea sleep study. I know I have sleep apnea but my appointment isn't until after my submit date. should I wait until I after i do the sleep apnea study then submit to CIGNA or should I go ahead and submit it without it being done. Do you all think that having sleep apnea affects your approval? Has anyone submitted and gotten approved without sleep apnea ?

My BMI was on the lower side, so I had to go get the sleep study to even be eligible for this surgery. I didn't think I had sleep apnea--but I do and since Christmas I've been using the machine and I do feel better and less tired. Go get tested because insurance companies want to see you have this and then they want to pay for your surgery. Also, I'm scheduled for next week and the doctors want me to make sure I inform the doctor that day that I have sleep apnea so they regulate my dose for putting me to sleep. If you have it--don't you want the doctors to know so you don't have complications of being put under? It's important to do it now and know until you get the surgery. Good luck!

I did the sleep study as part of the process as well, and discovered I have severe sleep apnea. I believe it really helped my approval - I was a slam dunk on the approval process and had it in less than a week. My surgeon was also very adamant that he wanted me using the cpap machine before and after the surgery to prevent complications and to help me rest better for a better recovery. You DEFINITELY should get the study done before submitting to insurance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
