De-jo 22 Posted May 7, 2013 Hello, I'm new here and and a million questions. First off.....How long did the process take for everyone. I am going to a seminar which is the first step before my consult. the office tells me it's a 2 to 2 1/2 month wait time from seminar to surg. She says due to the testing and prep. At my office, cash pay is about 6-8 weeks. I was insurance, so it was 4 months for me from first appt to surgery (included 3 month pre op diet required by insurance). No game 14,437 Posted May 7, 2013 My insurance did not require a waiting period. So my first consult was mid September and after getting all the pre op tests scheduled and done Surgery was done in mid November. So 3 months?
Richard Foor 655 Posted May 7, 2013 I did not have to do the supervised diet stuff due to having a higher BMI so my seminar was in early October, first preop apt October 18th, and surgery December 10th.
mommyradd 115 Posted May 7, 2013 It mostly depends on your insurance and their requirements. Mine took 6 months, but well worth the wait!
WorkItOutWoman 185 Posted May 7, 2013 Seminar 6/2012, first visit with surgeon 9/2012 with 6 month preop diet and surgery 3/2013
browniejan 20 Posted May 7, 2013 Seminar 2/13 1st appt in surgeons office 2/25/13 testing, testing, more testing. Ins approval, surgery 5/16. So 3 months for me.
Lego78 8 Posted May 7, 2013 From seminar (3/8/13) to surgery (5/28/13). Not even 3 months. My insurance was a breeze and I was able to schedule all my appointments back to back. Make sure you call your insurance company upfront and ask what the requirements are to be approved. That way, you can get them out of the way while you are doing your testing. Good Luck! De-jo 22 Posted May 14, 2013 Update....I went to the seminar and spoke with the surgeon after..... and I've had a lot of the pre op testing in the last year due to other issues. He said they can still be used since they were done with in the last twelve months...so yay! I work for the hospital that I'm having it done at so I know my insurance should be easy to deal with. My first appt is June 11th. Hope it won't take too much time. I'm very excited and ready to get the surgery.
Someonefab 25 Posted May 14, 2013 Thanks for that lovely information about some tests that were taken in the last twelve months can be used. What insurance company/hospital do you have? I will see if that can happen when I get to that point. I start my classes on June 12th. So it should be around my third class that my lab work should be done which is June 26th or so. De-jo 22 Posted May 15, 2013 I have Humana...and as far as the surgeon I'm using says that I can use my sleep ap test and endo testing, as well as the others. I've had a lot of health issues related to my gall bladder that sent me in all different directions of testing in the last few months. I guess it depends on the doc and the ins.
